I'm sure many of you have read this book and for you who haven't it may be worth a look. I learnt so much from this book and I have improved the way I feel a lot although lately it is going down hill again :( I still have to say I feel so lucky having found this forum though. thyroidpharmacist.com/book/

I bought this book from Amazon a couple of weeks back on the recommendation of someone in this group. It is certainly very thorough and a bit overwhelming at times. I am going on a strict gluten free diet and also trying to cut back on anything containing iodine. I did buy the L-glutamine but after a week I didn't feel as if it were agreeing with me. Could have been a coincidence as so much stress going on in my life at the moment. I also bought some organic coconut oil. This is supposed to be very good but I don't know the best way to consume it without really noticing in. I added a dessert spoonful to my porridge but I felt queasy, not sure if it was that but that greasy feeling in the mouth I found really off putting. I ought to cut out dairy as well but difficult as I have severe osteoporosis.

Anyway, I will gradually wade through all the book and at some point will have the £99 test kit and hope that some of these antibodies are reduced.

I started following the Paleo eating plan a year ago, and have been feeling more energetic since then. Not sure if it works for everyone, but at least it's given me a basis to work from to get the Hashi's under control.

Interesting article. Maybe will give it a go again although I would like not the rapid heart rate as the writer described having had 13 weeks last year of non stop heart racing, nausea and insomnia! By the by, so much for my strict GF diet. After having my shoulder scanned today I met a friend and we bought a GF sandwich in M & S. It said gluten free so I didn't bother to read the ingredients until after I had consumed it. There in the ingredients it included vinegar and on checking the list on their websites, it says in part no ingredients or ingredients derived from wheat, barley etc. I have emailed them.

I always cook with virgin coconut oil (roasting and occasionally frying) plus I put it on steamed vegetables and oatcakes instead of butter sometimes. It's delicious. I still use butter too - and I use virgin olive oil for salads.

I guess I could try frying with it as up until now I have been using avocado oil but I don't fry every day. Just wish I didn't like that greasy feel. I read some people even add it to a cup of tea, can you imagine lol!! I only drink herbal tea anyway.

No I can't think why anyone would put oil in a cup of tea Elaine and no- I wouldn't put it in porridge either. The coconut oil is good for stir fries and lovely for roasted vegetables. Apparently it is the best oil to use when cooking at high temperatures as it doesn't produce free radicals which other oils do. Plus it's delicious and comes into its own in cold weather when you're more likely to want hot food than salads. I imagine it would be nice for baking gf cookies too but I haven't tried it.

Hi Elaine. In response to your feeling queasy when eating coconut oil, I use it like butter on toast and sometimes in smoothies. If you feel queasy when eating fats, it may be that your body doesn't absorb fats very well. Another indicator of low fat absorption is very loose stools. I'm not a medical practitioner, but I have heard that looking after your liver helps with fat absorption. All the best.

I use coconut oil in cooking where ever possible. I also buy and eat fresh coconut and try to have coconut milk in my smoothies etc. If you want to be a it naughty you can mix it with milk chocolate and put in the fridge. yummy :)

Thanks for sharing that, looks like a useful book - I'll definitely be ordering it! I hope you start feeling a bit better soon. This is a real unpredictable condition, I found.
