Well, do you feel ok? Is the 75 one day followed by 50 the next an increase, or a decrease? What reason was given for the change, if there is one?

Why were you seeing the nurse?

Give us a few clues please.

Xx

My results were similar to yours 0.05 and 22. I'm on 150 per day. My doctor received a letter from my consultant asking him to reduce my dosage to 125. However that was not the conversation I'd had with the consultant. My doc asked me how I felt and said they don't always just go by the numbers. I told I feel the best I have in a long time so he said stick with then then. He did tell me abut risks though of cardiac arrests and if I have any palpitations or tremors to go seek medical advice.

This scared me a bit so I asked if I should do alternative tablets, 125 one day 150 the next, he said that this pointless as it still stays in your system.

Go by how you feel. If you're feeling good why change. Hope this helps you.

Don't allow your doctor to scare you, he doesn't know what he's talking about. There is no risk in a suppressed TSH, it is meaningless. What is important is the FT3 and he hasn't even tested it! He's ignorant.

Yes thats slightly alarmed me - danger of cardiac arrest?! Sometimes I think maybe I shouldnt read everything on here. Sometimes its a comfort but this time - not.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying there, Sidneymark. Are you saying you believe that suppressed TSH puts you in danger of cardiac arrest? Because it doesn't, as I said above. A suppressed TSH does not put you in danger of cardiac arrest or anything else because the TSH does not have any effect on any part of your body - not the heart, not the bones - it only stimulates the thyroid. Isn't that comforting?

Greygoose, it the TSH is suppressed where should the T4 and T3 be?

T3 shouldn't be over range if the tsh is supressed, ok for the T4 to be over though.

As Galathea said, but even so, some people do need their T3 over the top of the range. This is where taking symptoms into consideration comes in to play. If you don't feel over-medicated, then you more than likely aren't.

Its about how you feel not numbers, far too many doctors treat by the numbers instead of listening to the patient!!

I don't think a nurse is qualified to change your dose one way or the other. Even if the TSH and FT4 were a reliable way of judging the dose, which they are not. You would need to know what the FT3 is before messing about, whether it be an increase or a decrease. The most important factor is, are you feeling well?

Hi marram i was on 75 thyroxine but because TSH came back 0.04 range they say on blood test results 0.35-5.00 im slightly over replaced She is an endo nurse has told me to take this amount and see how i feel i have been shaking a lot on 75. Have to go to see endo on 5th June going to try but if i feel unwell will go back to 75 a day

I was on 75 mcgs and because of side effects of the drug I alternated 50 1 day 75 the next I felt ok for a month then felt tiered after that. In the end had to go back to full dose and now feel better with additional supplements.

I had a chat with an endo once (but not a medical consultation) as I was a bit worried I was over medicated and he suggested trying a lower dose on alternating days. When I went to my GP, he was reluctant, but lowered my dose for a month (every day not alternating days). I decided I felt worse and went back to my usual 100micrograms. Actually I've been fine since - maybe it was a blip to do with my age, but I suspect it was more to do with just having a bit more stress in my life - making me struggle to sleep and a bit on edge all the time.

Why don't you try it and see how you feel? 5th june is not far away and 25micrograms lower every other day is not a huge difference to try out.

Best of luck :)

Hi lifeback

can relate to that, that's what thyroxin I take, my reasons are that the gp dropped my thyroxin to 50mcg about 2 year ago and went down hill until I had no life, wanted to lay down all the time, hadn't the energy to think never mind do much, finally got the gp to up my medication but he said to take the 25mcg every other day, it's been upped now for about 4 week feeling abit better hope it continues to get better, if not I will go back to my gp, anyway that's why I take 50mcg one day and 50mcg the next.

wishing you all the best
