If I was taking 125 of thyroxine and now taking 20mcg of t3 split in to 2 doses a day is this enough.as not feeling great.
T3: If I was taking 125 of thyroxine and now... - Thyroid UK
T3
Have to stopped taking your thyroxine? If you have then you have reduced your medication.
10mcg's of T3 is the equivalent to 40mg's thyroxine so at the moment you are only taking the equivalent of 80mcg's of thyroxine which could be the reason you are not feeling to great. In effect you have reduced your medication by 45mcg's of thyroxine or approx 10mcg's T3.
Does that make sense?

Yes thankyou thats what I thought
Hi Moggie just reading your answer because i have similar problem . so i wondered if i could ask you please.
i was taking 100mg levothyroxine and was trialing liothyronine but was feeling awful. thankfully my gp is willing to help me in this journey. so i am very lucky i know . however he admits he knows little. i have ordered paul robinsons book because i get bloo results( when not on lio )showing sub range t3. when i take t3 i am back in range . so my doc agrees with me that i must not convert t4.
but when on t3/t4 i felt really rough . so reading peoples invaluable advice on this page i am seeing reports on 'reverse t3??' which i think means my levothyroxine may be blocking uptake of my liothyronine .
because of this i am trying without levothyroxine .
i have been doing this for 5 days . i have been taking 20 to 30 mcg
split in 3 doses.
i think that is about right then is it if ratio is 10 : 40 as in i should take 25 lio .
was it ok to stop levo without weaning myself off it
is the temp test first thing in morning
what rage should it be when i am optimally medicated?
it used to be 36 .2 c most of day before i was diagnosed because i used to say to people i dont know why they say yr temp should be 37 . mines always 36.2 . little did i know that it was because i was hashimotos
sorry if i have got this all wrong .
thankyou for your advice and assistance . xx
H Poppy,
To answer your first question regarding stopping the T4 then yes it is fine to stop the T4 as it is a storage hormone. It will take at least six, possible eight, weeks to totally leave your system.
Your question on the basal temp test is easily answered by giving you a link to the main thyroiduk website which explains all you need to know. There is also a chart for you to print out and fill in each day.

Hope I have answered everything and its nice to hear of a GP who, firstly admits to knowing little about this illness but more importantly is willing to learn and help you on your journey.
Good luck with it.

Hi there, I'm currently on 150mcg of levothyroxine and have asked my gp to put me on t3 as well. She said she will once my levels stabilise. They haven't been stable for 2yrs and the latest increase hasn't made me feel any better. What I'm asking is, how much t3 should I be taking when on 150mcg Levo? Thanks in advance if you can help.
Hi the ratio seems to be 3:1 or 4:1 T4 to T3, but it does seem to vary from person to person.
so if you use the 3:1 ratio you should be on approx 40mcg T3, and 4:1 approx 30mcg T3.
How long have you been taking T3 at 20 mcg? It is a smallish dose. Are you checking your temps and pulse daily asw temp is the best indicator of whether you are getting enough thyroid hormone. Also are your adrenals ok?
You can increase by a small amount gradually until you feel well. If you get overstimulated you will soon know and can reduce down slightly or miss next day's dose.
