Before I started this course of NDT I was taking levo and t3...I have tried numerous brands of t3 from all over the world

I think the ones available in the UK are very weak (mercury)

The best ones so far are from France if anyone needs more info send me a private message

Amelie, I don't get the problem if a brand is felt to be less potent than another when self medicating. Why not increase the dose?

in reply toClutter

I wasn't self medicating

I don't have insurance I was prescribed t4 and t3 but my GP and have been getting a prescription for 5 years...however I decided to try other brands because I found the one here useless and because I had my script I was able to buy from pharmas in other countries

And believe me it took a LOT of fight to get the t3 prescribed...almost a year in fact so it wasn't easy for me

That's cool message me whenever you like :)

Can you tell me how to get T3 privately - one months supply from USA was very expensive when charges were added

T3 isn't a drug, it's a hormone.

Jesus.... I'm aware of that thank you. Its easier than saying every brand name and/or every chemical name

OK :) But are you aware that it doesn't act like a drug? It's not the same thing at all.

in reply togreygoose

So you don't think different brands from different pharmas of hormones could be different??

Well, of course I do, but that's not the point.

You are saying that taking a higher dose is 'dangerous'. I quote : to increase a dose is dangerous, especially for prescribed drugs.

I say, no it's not. You need the amount of T3 you need, so if one brand is weaker than another, you need to take more of it. That's not dangerous because we're not talking about drugs. We're talking about hormones. and there's no point in staying on a dose that is too low for you. With hormones - any hormones - you just increase the dose until you feel well.

Oh, I'm so sorry, I got the names muddled. And now the OP - seems to have left the group. I hope that wasn't my fault! But I wasn't talking to her when I said that T3 wasn't a drug. I Don't think she realised that.

Of course too much hormone is dangerous, but no-one is suggesting anyone takes 'too much' hormone - but what is too much? That's the question. Doctors are inclined to give you too little. Which isn't helpful, either.

I Don't think anyone wants to take too much - that would make them feel bad, too, and they would lower it. But the point of thyroid hormone replacement is to increase the dose until the symptoms are gone.

No doctor can know in advance how much that is going to be, so it doesn't matter whether it is a prescribed treatment or not. As I said before, you need what you need. And if your T3 isn't as strong as it should be, the only answer is to increase the dose.

I self-treat, and I take as much as I need to feel well. At one point I was taking French T3, which is good - the best I've had. But for various reasons, I had to switch to Cynomel, which just isn't as potent. I need to take more than I would of the French stuff. That isn't dangerous, that is necessary if I Don't want all my symptoms to come back. But I have no intention of over-dosing on it. :)

Sorry about the confusion. Take care.
