Is it worth trying a gluten free diet?

Just wondered if it is worth eliminating gluten from my diet, I have had IBS for years, together with fybromyalgia, under-active thyroid and possible Lupus! One of worse symptoms though is the pain and bloating from my IBS so any advice would be welcome!

Thanks LucyKris

It is worth doing to see if you see results. If you sign up to websites such as Juvela they often send out free samples.

Not sure, wouldnt go gluten free by choice for any length of time. I was diagnosed after couple years became extra sensitive to gluten, not only that developed IBS later. Are the doctors careing for you. Going gluten free didnt eventually stop me having IBS. would like to have some gluten foods but its a no no for me now. as extra sensitive, before wasnt wretching and being sick with gluten like now. Take care, has your doctor given any help, if not give him a chance. Others will advise you in time.

I tried it for a month and more constipated than ever. I am not gluten sensitive, I guess.

I tried it a few years back on recommendation of my gastroenterologist, persisted for just under a year with it and it did nothing for me personally, ditto for the lactose free diet. It may be different depending on the type of IBS you suffer from. As a typical IBS-D sufferer it turned out to be wholegrains and insoluble fibres making my life even more miserable so I cut them out and now stick to white bread items, rice, oats and soluble fibres and while I still have all my symptoms, my pain and bloating are less.

Thanks for all your replies, I guess it does depend on what IBS you suffer from, I will give it a go I think as it is worth a try as currently my gut rules me and not the other way round!
