I’m currently using Peristeen usually daily for my chronic constipation. It has been working but I’ve explored whether going on a Chronic Idiopathic Constipation/IBS-C drug would be better and easier. This is not really hard stools I have a problem with but straining to do a BM.
My Gastro has suggested that I could try Prucalopride and if that doesn’t work Linaclotide. I have atrial fibrillation which is controlled by flecainide and bisoprolol maintenance dose daily. A few questions.
Does anyone have experience of both these drugs in terms of side effects please?
Which one is more effective please?
What is your experience as I’ve read both can cause arrhythmias and does anyone know if that is the case please?
Does my medication interact with either of these drugs or would the AFIB medication still control the issue please.
Thank you in advance

hi. I think this question for your cardiologist. I would like to think your GP would not have suggested either medication if there was any chance of negative interaction as they would have records of your history and medications, however I have zero faith in GP’s so its worth checking. Best wishes.
I have a few months of experience with Prucalopride. My problem was also straining rather than hard stool. The positive effects were that I could go easier and it helped a bit with my bloating but it caused me crazy hunger feeling. I had to eat a lot to satisfy my appetite and when I didn't eat for like 3-4 hours, I felt the hunger in every parts of my body, painfully. I had to stop it. I don't remember if It caused any hearth problem but if it did, I don't think I contributed it to this pill. I get heart palpitations quite frequently. I hope it helps.
Ah, I forgot to mention that. I first took the pill called Prucalopride (2mg) and when I took the first pill, then it caused me diarrhoea. I decided to take half of it only and it helped. At the beginning, I didn't realize that the hunger pain was caused by it so I took it for about two months. Then I gave it up but my symptoms came back so I thought I would try Resolor, which has the same active ingredient. I was prescribed Resolor (1mg) but it caused me severe diarrhoea with very painful cramps. (I was crawling on the floor.) Even half of the pill caused this. I stopped taking it. I took both of them in the evening. I would not suggest taking it in the morning to avoid diarrhoea during the day.
Can you tell me how it affected you when you took it in the evening? Did you still gert diarroea? I take linoclotide, I empty the capsule of 190mcg and split it into four, taking only a qtr in the mornings before breakfast. This makes me 'go' about 2 hours later but it's always diarroea and then stomach cramps all day.Does the prucalopride do this to you?
Hi, I currently take Prucalopride for slow colonic motility and unfortunately it has made no difference to my situation. I tried 2mg but found it was making my blood sugars drop very low after a couple of hours after taking it, I am now on 1mg, did cause some headaches when I first started for a few days. In regards to linaclotide, I have that in my cupboard and from what I've heard it cause bad diarrhoea, i already suffer with overflow diarrhoea so I'm not keen on trying it. I too have been using the Peristine lite irrigation, but again it doesn't really help because my problem is getting stool to the exit in the first place.
I've recently started Juvia and it's been very helpful. It helps with constipation and bloating. I've read that for some people, it caused bloating at the beginning but I didn't have the same experience. I just have to be careful because if I take too much then I have diarrhoea from it. For me, a teaspoon is enough per day.
