hi all need advice please : hi all so my husband... - IBS Network
hi all need advice please
bump
My calprotectin was in that range. I was referred for a colonoscopy and I still came back with an IBS diagnosis, which is statistically more likely. Plus high protein and lower in carbs/fibre diets can cause such high inflammation readings.
Regarding the bloody stools, has he been constipated which might have caused fissures?
The best thing to do whilst waiting for a colonoscopy is to distract yourselves, concentrate on what you need to do day to day and try not to discuss it. Once you get the diagnosis you will know how to move forward, but there is no point in speculating, since this is wasted energy. The main point is that he is doing the right thing in getting tested. Good luck.
Hi hun he does have. High protein diet he’s a gym rat and he eats mince meat or chicken and rice daily .. he only has 2 cheat days a week.. no he’s not been constipated .. it’s literally thick red and white mucus in he’s poop.. I can attach a pic but don’t know if it’s appropriate to do that on here… did u have any bleeding also thanks for ur reply xx
You will be unable to attach a pic. It was banned some time ago, since these sorts of pictures should really only be seen by a doctor :-).
If he has a diet very high in animal protein and white rice (not brown), with little in the way of veggies and fibre, that could cause high inflammation readings. The gut really needs fibre to be healthy.
I didn't have any bleeding.
Hopefully you'll get your answers soon and you'll know how to proceed.
we don’t even have a colonoscopy booked he’s only been referred to gastro
The ployori probably caused this. Not necessarily cancer, but get it checked to put your minds at rest
I had similar symptoms, and went to a private gastroenterologist. He requested an urgent colonoscopy which was done 2 weeks later on the NHS
I had diverticula, but no polyps, the blood was from haemorrhoids in the rectum.
okay sorry if it’s personal but do you know if your blood was in your stool? Also did u have the h ployri aswell
Hi, I’m sorry to hear your husband is experiencing this, I hope it’s calming down. Last year I had bleeding. I think it was inflammation / flare up. I have IBS & colitis. I had blood test & stool sample was prescribed Filgotinib meds that calmed the bleeding.
I hope your husband gets something to help him.
my colitis is in remission currently but I suffer daily with IBS.
With my colitis, I had severe diarrhoea, stomach cramps, lots of bleeding when emptying my bowels. Lost lots of weight quickly.
Sometimes when i have a flare up, it’s the rectum that’s inflamed and I have blood in my poo and mucus. But no way as much as when I first had colitis symptoms.
I’ve used Pentasa suppositories and tablets to help calm down / control inflammation and in the past enemas.
Keep trying the GP, bleeding isn’t right and needs checking. Does your local hospital have a IBD dept / Advice line? You might be able to contact them directly.
I hope it gets sorted.
Thank you so much for your detailed reply.. he’s referred to gastro as urgent but it’s still a lot of time I think after the new year…
So I will call he’s GP and tell them to expedite it as he’s having alot of symptoms …
We also went to a&e they sent us back with nothing at all jus said bloods are fine even though we showed them pics and he presented with abdominal pain.. they fobbed us off
hi there just an update so he’s doctor called him today reassuring it’s most likely IBD and NOT cancer as they know from he’s stool sample ? Is this correct I jus don’t believe what I hear as my daughter died due to negligence in 2021…
oh my I’m so very sorry to hear about your daughter . Yes don’t give up until you get answers, it’s not right. When I had a flare up last year the Gastro consultant arranged an urgent colonoscopy. That also checks for cancerous cells, they take biopsies. As far as I’m aware the a lot can be found out from blood tests. Persevere, i hope your husband gets seen soon. Take care.
