I have severe diverticulosis. I have been suffering recently with muscle weakness & aches, particularly in my thighs. Does anyone experience this?

Hi, I have diverticulosis and unfortunately can confirm that muscle weakness in my legs and bouts of extreme fatigue are all part of it. Completely random in onset; I just try my best to push through it and give the body the rest it needs. Sorry I couldn’t be more upbeat!

Thanks for your response. I feel most of the time that I am getting over flu or virus or something 😩. Best wishes to you.

I think there is a definite connection between stomach problems and weakness and fatigue. I've often noticed weakness in my legs when I need to pass a stool. I also suffer from bouts of ME which I also suspect is exacerbated by gut discomfort. All you can do is slow down a little, try to eat well but don't slow down completely as it is then more difficult to get back to your previous energy levels. I don't think GPs understand this link.

Thanks for your response. I did think of something like ME or fibromyalgia may be the cause. But as you say GP’s don’t understand this link, as there are no specific tests for those conditions. Best wishes to you.

Hello 👋

You don’t take Statins as well do you?

I’ve tried 3 different kinds and have had to stop them as they gave me pain in my outer thighs, weakness and aches.

Yes, i take atorvastatin. I have tried different ones but I don’t know whether these are worse. Trouble is I have to take statins or my cholesterol shoots up, even if I watch what I eat. I might see if they can try me in another one again. Did your muscle aches stop & if so how long did it take? Thanks for your response. Best wishes.

If you get muscle pains after taking Atrovastatin, you must tell your GP. It can be irreversible if it goes on too long. Have a look at the leaflet that comes with the prescription. Best wishes
