hi , had colon cancer , metastasis in liver, both successfully operated on , also Chemo,13/14. Years ago , they removed my gallbladder Still having CT scans every year ,which I am grateful for .
I get this pain feels like wind trapped , sometimes under my ribs or lower down really getting on my nerves now, consultant said ‘could’ be IBS , had it on and off for years but seems worse now, anyone else had similar, tried all the wind remedies.
Still waiting for scan results from 8thjuly ,’only’ 6 weeks ago, always worried!!!

Hi Queensgate, sorry to hear you had cancer, but happy that you have had a great outcome. I have had bouts of pain under right rib, radiating to upper back and nothing relieved it.
Had an US scan ad GP thought it was Gallbladder, all came back negative.
I am told it isn't IBS related by the professionals but I think it is.
I suffer with pain in transverse colon, mainly right sided, so I am convinced it is IBS pain.
Mine flares up now and again, and I just ride it out now.
My pain under my right rib is due to vascular compressions (MALS / SMAS). It gets worse after eating and when I'm upright and moving around. Others with vascular compressions also get pain due to scar tissue. Might be worth checking it out to see if your symptoms are similar. Best wishes....
Have you had any treatment for MALS/SMAS? How were you diagnosed? Did you have the surgery or the nerve block? Just going through this process now as I’ve had extensive abdominal surgeries in the past but MALS/SMAS was never looking into till this point and it’s rare to find someone who has gone through this experience. Did you get diagnosed by gastro or vascular surgeon? Many thanks xx
My GP requested a CT scan with contrast dye specifically for MALS. The results came back showing MALS & SMAS. The next step is referral to a vascular specialist. There are quite a few groups on FB that I've found extremely helpful. I am currently managing my pain and continuing to research the condition.
I have a full body ct with contrast every year , but I suppose they are just looking for any reacurring tumours ,I am 84 years old now so I really have to be grateful they are still scanning me ,nobody seems interested in the pain I have now , so I suppose I’ve just got to put up with it.
I am quite fit for my age so very frustrating to have this constantly bugging me .
I’ve had ultrasound a few years ago but they said everything was fine .!!!
Thanks for your interest, it is sometimes reassuring that other people have the same symptoms,
I had many scans that came back clear before I discovered vascular compressions and requested a scan specifically. I was lucky to have a fantastic GP that didn't give up on me but it has taken 30 years to get to the bottom of my pain and it only happened because I kept pushing and researching. I really hope you get the help you need. It's not fun spending life in pain ...
hi . Sorry to hear about your colon cancer . I had massive bowl surgery due to chronic diverticulitis in 2018 and since then have all sort of problems… trapped wind plus idiopathic constipation that never had in my life … I’m also dealing with gastritis and feed which I was given PPI for since 2019 . Was also given constella on 2022 which makes things worse at times … currently had to deal with a long episode of blockage last February till may … my colonoscopy was ok . So I’m currently taking morals / peg every day plus constella on and off . Also am a strong believer in fennel tea and anise for gas troubles … slippery elm as well . Hope that helps best of luck !
Hi thanks for your reply,it seems we all have so much to put up with,I would just love a day to be able to eat normally and not suffer afterwards, but after reading everyone’s post, realise some people have far worse problems than me .
