i started having constipation around monday but managed to get some of it out on monday and tuesday and i think maybe a tiny bit on wednesday morning (very hard) then thursday and friday i couldnt use the toilet till i went to the doctor friday evening and got laxido. that evening i took 2 then had very soft stool but since then ive only had what i can describe as mushy but kinda watery toilet trips .( its currently 2pm saturday)
do i do the whole 8 sachets a day thing even though im only having mushy watery poos ? im not sure how laxido works or how long it takes to clear impactions because i think mine might be quite high up. is THIS the impaction clearing up? i saw something online about poos like this being able to go past impactions which is worrying me
btw i dont have much stomach pain besides a new pain on the left side near my rib
could use someones knowldge please

My view is that Laxido won't help and might make things worse. Impaction is probably causing the loose bits leaking around it. Ideally an enema should resolve it. Otherwise try a good dose of milk of magnesia. If carries on for more than a few days do seek professional advice. I know what a horrible thing it is.
I find them slightly undignified but not painful and soon over. The relief, when it works, which it usually does, is wonderful. Having read what I have about Laxido I wouldn't use it more than a little occasionally but I guess some find it helpful. The slight leakage with impaction is often called overflow.
I would follow whatever your Dr has told you to do. In my case it was 1 sachet twice a day. It can take a few days to righten itself. Also try drinking lots of water.
did you have an impaction? i currently sort of feel like theres something there that wont come out even after diarrhea, not sure if im imagining it but i didnt have this feeling before starting laxido
I was having very similar to you and was told to take 8 sachets over a period of 1-2 hours as it would give a good clean out of my bowels and it done okay but I had to stay close by the toilet as for most of the day I was having a lot of very loose motions - wishing you all the best
really 8 satchets within 2 hours instaead of 6 hours like it says on the paper? was it an impaction you had. today ive taken 5 so far and yesterday i took 5 and i have a feeling like when you regulary need to go to the toilet like that slightly full feeling that i didnt have before starting laxido but only diarreah or watery stuff comes out and the feeling is still there . unsure if its in my head
Hi naomitT10933, Sorry to read that you're impacted. Unfortunately it's common and anything goes with the type, colour, length and consistency, as well as how regular you are. Even so, all changes need to be discussed with your Gp.
I've taken Laxido/Macrogol for at least 10 years now at 1 sachet twice a day which didnt work. It was most effective for me at 2 sachets in the evening.
Currently im on 4 sachets a day. My previous agreement with my Gp was to take 8 each day until the impaction was gone. If not resolved after 5 to 7 days I would need help.
What Laxido does is put water into your stools. This sort of breaks it down as its probably dry, your body can't break it down quickly enough, or like me you eat too much of the good stuff and your bowels cannot break it down properly as it seems to coagulate in your bowels..... basically our bowels don't work as they should for various reasons.
Your bowels will then release the poo in a variation of large and small poo which has more water in the faeces, making it less painful to pass.
With regards to the pain on the left side of your rib, speak to your Gp about Diverticulitis ASAP. If your Gp refuses or won't engage ask to be referred to your local Pain Clinic. If this still isn't done then call NHS111. If this still doesn't work, then just go to A&E.
thanks for replying. i wasnt sure how long its supposed to take to clear impactions also i probably shouldve mentioned in my post that im 20 years old because i feel like my gut shouldnt be doing this altough i know its because of drinking too much fizzy and a terrible diet . im amazed that youve been taking it for 10 years
I found that my body became addicted to laxido and I struggled without it until I read about Dr Sarah Myhill's PK diet (Paleo Ketogenic) and she recommends taking vitamin C. I was able to stop using laxido and take vit C instead. However, I recently had a knee replacement and needed 'help' after opioids and hospital food so she prescribed it again. Now I am trying to wean off it again. I was diagnosed with IBS-C in my 20s - which means that I suffer with constipation but they don't know why - and it's remained the same ever since I was born. It may be an allergy but I've never found out what to. Good luck and I know how anxious this must be making you.
