I have had IBS(D) for more than 40 years which has gradually got worse over the years , more pain all over my abdomen radiating under right and left ribs ! I have had cat scans ,colonoscopies and blood tests over the years all normal ; I notice in the last few years my hair is getting thinner and have developed some skin rashes ! I am 70 years old so maybe this is an age related issue ?
any comments would be appreciated
Thanks so much

Hair thinning seems to be cyclical as well as linked to age, ( I am 74 and have suffered various changes lately.) However rashes could have so many causes....hay fever, food allergies, hot weather, not enough water, too many possibilities.I am concerned with skin and scalp itching ,especially at night, and while it appears to be linked to hot weather and over heated rooms to a certain extent I would also be interested in hearing what others think.
Thank you , I have been reading your posts for a while and noticed you went to a consultant a few years ago for a scan / MRI , I get a swelling at the top of my stomach on the left side which comes and goes did you have anything like that ?
No I didnt. I think the scan was the one that revealed gallstones....which havent developed into anything nasty, I do keep clear of fatty and processed food reasonably conscientiously.
Thanks so much , think I might have those as I get phases of terrible upper abdominal pain radiating under both ribs 🙈🙈, after 5-7 days it settles down again , think I will have to cut down on fat completely !
I think you're right, it might not all be down to IBS, but more age related. Although IBS can cause deficiencies with a restricted diet, which doesn't help. I'm 67 nearly and I've had thinning hair and rashes. Not so much of the thinning hair this year though as I try to improve my diet all the time, sometimes suffering the consequences but we have to try don't we. Some we win some we lose. I have tried to eat more things with protein in, I'm vegetarian for 45 years so I'm used to looking for alternatives regardless of IBS. The skin rashes have improved since I went onto more low Histamine foods . foods with high histamines can cause skin rashes, (Hives) my skin has been a lot clearer recently.
Taking a good multivitamin will help if you're not already doing so, and some probiotics. I take the ones with strains in for histamine intolerance now. Fibre is important too whatever you can tolerate.
Hi, just to add I have had thinning hair since I started with an early menopause many years ago, and found out a little while ago that collagen peptides is supposed to help. I must admit it has made a big difference, I used to to lose a lot of hair, especially after washing, but now that loss is minimal ( normal). The make is Vital Proteins and I buy from Holland and Barrett. It’s in powder form in a big tub, and I take just one scoop in my cup of tea every morning. It is quite expensive so I stock up when offers are on. I noticed an improvement probably after a month, hopefully this’ll be useful to you too.
I lost a patch of hair at the front of my hair after having covid and flu vac together , I am certain that was the cause it has now ( eventually) grown back.
I think hair loss can be caused by many things including low iron , vitamins etc, but it can also be stress, age or hereditary. Mine was without doubt due to the vaccinations , so for this reason I won’t take any more jabs, not to say everyone reacts the same but it’s a consideration.
Chances are that no one else but you notices or cares, it is very difficult to accept our changes and differences, but these things happen.
