Anyone else have intermittent dizziness with IBS? I have had IBS for many years and it tends to worsen when I’m stressed. I’m 78 but very active for my age. I live alone as my beloved husband of 50 years died in 2012. I try to keep positive. I have to go over and look after my 9 and 7 year old grand daughters now and again. I love them but find that a bit stressful. My ibs has been pretty bad lately and I thought I’d found the answer in Buscopan which really helped me but then my BP warned me off it as it can me associated with dementia. Tried other antispasmodic but nothing as good as Buscopan. Lately I’ve been experiencing some dizziness, usually as I get up from bed etc. I’ve had heart checks and I’m ok. I do have high blood pressure though. Anyway the dizziness scared me so I googled it with ibs and was amazed to see that there may be a connection. Anyone else experienced this?

Dizziness with ibs
Hello I definitely think so, I'm 29 and had that dizziness for years whenever I was about to get a flare up. I wonder why? 🤔
Doesn’t make sense, does it? How could it be related? But I was reassured that the connection has been made for some people. I know how our bodily functions are so closely connected. Anyway it has scared me but I was reassured by the news it may be connected
Hi - this is really interesting- it got me thinking as back when my Ibs was really terrible I used to get dizzy all the time. Never realised there could have been a connection! Sorry you are suffering badly - this is something I’m going to look into a bit more. It’s such a crazy different condition for each person.
Hi Tiffany, your story sounds very similar to my own. You mentioned in another post the other day that you are affected by the heat, which I am, as well as when the temperature drops too. And the other thing I connected with you was change in symptoms after having a baby. And we also both experienced dizziness. My son is 26 now so I'm probably a lot older than you, but found it interesting that we have had similarities.
Hi Maureen - it’s reassuring to hear someone has similar experiences. I am starting to think a lot of mine might be hormonal - I am sure I’m in the perimenopause which I reckon might be kicking it off again. I am going to try and do a bit of research into it as I often find there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to what’s kicked off my symptoms food wise . Basically anything I eat seems to bloat me and give me gas now (and sometimes an urgent trip to the loo). It’s just worse some days than others. Frustrating!
Yes, it's just impossible isn't it. I've had it for nearly 35 years. Started when I was about 27 and I was 61 in February. Mine certainly got worse during the menopause and the hot flushes didn't help! I will follow you, if you don't mind, I would be interested in how you get on with your reseaching.
Hi, yes I get dizziness on and off. I associate it more with D than C. I remember once when my son was young one particular instance. We had been out for a lot of the day and I hadn't eaten very much and then late in the evening I had a very large meal at a Little Chef and became very dizzy about 30-60 mintues later. I was convinced it was the food rushing through me. It stopped after about 20 minutes or so and then I felt fine, no need to go the toilet or anything like that. I also have high blood pressure but I don't think it has anything to do with that as I am on medication for it.
Hi Wifflesnook: Thank you for your comments. I have suffered from IBS for most of my life. I am 77 years old. On occasions I also get dizziness, which scared my wife who fortunately is alive and still with me and supports me brilliantly. Recently, I made a mistake travelling to the USA to see my son and two granddaughters. The trip really stressed me out and started a severe episode of IBS, which has lasted for weeks now, and I have had a number ibs symptoms with it, including dizziness, and even some loss of memory, which fortunately has now returned.
I feel very tired and drained when I have an IBS attack and I’ve not yet hit 40. Hope that helps.
Simply YES . mainly in a morning
Oh yes!
Both Mum and I have IBS-C (one trait I would prefer NOT to have inherited from her 😁) , with horrid and sudden ibs-d flare ups and we both suffer from extreme dizziness and near-fainting episodes right at the onset of a bout of ibs-d. The stomach cramps are horrendous, they are accompanied by cold sweats and almost passing out.....we call them our 'fainty things'. We have both passed out completely on a few occasions each. Afterwards, we are just so drained of energy and can do nothing but sleep for HOURS! (I'm in my 50's, Mum in her 70's)
We both have the same doc and each of us have spoken to him about these episodes - when i told him, he looked at me like i was daft and said the fainty things wouldn't be connected to the ibs, Mum said he did the same to her when she told him too.....so I took great pleasure in researching it and showing him the evidence on a subsequent visit 😁😁😁
Hello, I have IBS-D and have put my dizziness down to dehydration as I probably don’t drink enough water to replenish my fluids. I hope that may help but I’m sorry if not 😊
