night time pains

I have posted a number of times about night time pain …which I am still getting! However by taking an enema each morning when waking I get rid of the wind and normally have a bowel movement and can have a good day. However at night when going to bed I get wind and two hours later I am awake. I get rid of some wind which helps. However I get the urge to pee and often have difficulty going which means I am wide awake! Sometimes I can’t go at all! I have an enlarged prostate but have had all the tests and nothing sinister. I am talking to my gastroenterologist next week but I wondered if the problems with my pee which normally only occur at night are linked to my bowel problems. During the day if I am in a strange place I sometimes also find it difficult to pee! I wondered if anyone has or has had the same problems. Thanks Ian

I wonder if the wind might be connected with the time you eat in the evening, plus your bedtime?

I always need to pass wind twice a day -first when I get up in the morning, then second about 3-4 hours after dinner. And if I don't pass it properly for any reason it can hurt.

If you go to bed before that wind has moved, I wonder if that's what might cause you pain in the night?

So I don't know what time you have your dinner/tea/supper (I never know what to call it!) :D

But if you go to bed within only 3 or 4 hours after eating that might not be enough of a gap. I wonder?

What helps me in the evening is a hot tea, then if the wind is feeling a bit trapped, I lie down flat on my back on the floor, with just a little cushion behind my head/neck. Sometimes that in itself works to pass the wind out and sometimes, just massaging the tummy a bit, hot water bottle on tummy, experimenting with drawing up legs on one side then the other (gently) pr gently rolling a bit from side to side will help.

But I don't go to bed until about 7 hours after dinner because I'm a bit of a night owl.

As for difficult peeing... I was reading an article in a paper the other day about BPH (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy) and apparently doctors have found that when men who have that sit to pee instead of stand, it is very much easier to empty the bladder because the pelvic floor muscles are more relaxed.

Totally familiar. Wind pressure seems to act on bladder making me both want to pee and less able to do it (If you don't know it the trick is to run water over your fingers, preferably luke warm water over 3rd or 4th finger: If you can reach, put your fingers under a runnng tap). And wind in the morning, being un/able to 'blow' it seems to control my day. Sometimes the wind pain wakes me for good, had a few ghastly nights recently woken at 1 or 2AM and rest of the day totally trashed.

thanks for those replies - it is reassuring that others have similar problems and all the tips - will try fingers under the tap!!
