Just adding to my previous post was told I have a very loopy bowel on sigmoidoscopy a couple of years ago . Had Bloods done Ca125 etc a couple of years ago so not been repeated as was ok and it stresses me out . I keep worrying its something else but literally had this same pain for several years although this time had diarrhoea too . Feel exhausted with it ! Trying to just relax and try to get outside and keep exercising as makes me feel less anxious

Pain in that area is often a sign of diverticulitis. Any history with that?

Hi Alice....I had left-side pain too in the groin. This had been going on for years as IBS hadn't been diagnosed. It was thought to be hip joint related and I had actually signed the consent forms for a hip replacement even though X-rays were inconclusive! I was taking codeine to manage the pain....this was also masking the IBS symptoms. It was only when I stopped taking codeine that I had an IBS flare-up and was given loperamide and buscopan instead of codeine that I noticed that the groin pain was far less. Fingers-crossed, the two taken together seem to more-or-less control the symptoms. As yet, the cause of the IBS hasn't been identified...it isn't gluten, so a dietitian might be the next port of call. For now though, I'm just happy to have some relief and also don't have to face a hip replacement.

Incidentally, I don't know about other IBS sufferers but I'm having to suggest courses of action to my GP...there seems to be little understanding and expertise at my practice at least. Thank heavens for this network, do your research and don't be afraid to challenge the GP.

Yes always the pain is on my left hand side. I assumed it was because i have a loopy bowel and food matter gets stuck there. No one has said anything to the contrary

I get a dull lower back and groin pain. It seems to have got worse over the last year. I get a horrid stabbing pain in the left groin, usually up to an hour before a bowel movement. Even when all easy and normal. Both bladder and uterus have been checked over and are OK. I can only assume there is a weakness of some sort there but that does not explain the back and right groin? So maybe it's some kind of muscular thing.
