I have pains near edge of left shoulderblade. Very painful. Ibs in a flare and it seems connected. Even hurts walking with each step. Started as sharp stabs but now feels like a brick in my back. Very gassy but why would it hurt more moving if gas. Had lots of recent scans all ok. Anyone else

Yes this symptom is very familiar to me . I’ve had this debilitating IBS for many years and found that on occasions it felt like some had their fist pressed hard under my shoulder blade and the pain used to radiate out . It seemed to last for quite a few hours at a time and could be very painful. It does seem to be a symptom in some people and I have read that it’s a related nerve thing in people with very sensitive digestive disorders. I don’t seem to have that added problem like I used too but it can occasionally niggle if I have a flair up. I would take a couple of paracetamol at the time to help as and when , the pain just used gradually fade. This was my experience with this symptom, it’s like we already have enough to contend with but it sends more rubbish our way .

You may be suffering from acid reflux, which can be worse if you're feeling gassy since the retained gas builds pressure in the system, weakening the valve between the stomach and the throat allowing stomach contents to flow back. Perhaps movement makes food in the stomach slosh around and more likely to flow upwards. All of this would need to be discussed with your GP, though. Reflux can certainly be felt around the shoulder blade area.

If this is the case, rather than going straight for PPIs, perhaps do some food elimination and reintroduction to see if that helps the gas to settle i.e. whether there are any specific foods affecting it. Good probiotics, could be tried even before that since they can make you more tolerant to certain foods. Alflorex worked best for me and it also helps to suppress gas producing bacteria.

I definitely have gas and acid. It is fairly constant now for couple of days.

I was recently referred to gastro and tried to talk to him about the pain in my left shoulder seeming to be connected to my gas and constipation but he was very dismissive. Its funny that you should post this I was awake most of the night with severe pain in my left shoulder blade and up my neck along with constant belching. I really do think there is a link

It is awful, just walking makes me hurt so much like a fist in back. Feels like muscle at times but my ibs pain seems to trigger it. Gas seems to be the cause, mine goes into my neck. My pain is not under shoulderblade but to the side edge.
