Hi,
Can I ask if anyone’s IBS stops them sleeping on their left side? Ever since my pain started I have always been a left side sleeper, but find it’s too painful and it gives me a dull ache (like toothache).
Thanks

Yes, the pain can be felt in both sides, pelvic pain. In first instance I thought it was the mattress so bought a new one but it didn't help. Now I know it's pain originating from my intestine/colon, visceral pain
Totally empathise! Yes, my IBS pain woke me and meant I could not lay on my left side. I was really struggling getting used to sleeping in different positions! I ended up exhausted! I need my sleep - I work for the NHS doing 12 ½ hour shifts! Anyway - I discussed this with my GP who prescribed a low dose of ‘amitriptyline’ at night - I was really cynical but also desperate and willing to try anything! So glad I did - I have to say it’s proven superb! - I take mine a couple of hours before bed which means I go to bed relaxed, the pain either goes or at least reduces significantly - I sleep well on my left side and wake really refreshed! Awesome! Perhaps speak to your GP.
Very best of luck - Lorna x
This sounds like me... I am getting to the age (47),where I am thinking menopause may start to be a factor, had some bloods last year but other than cholesterol being high, nothing else showed up.. I have recently swapped doctors due to my doctor still not seeing patients and how he can assess my pain without a examination is beyond me.. hopefully I will get some answers soon x
thanks a lot for the tip, CPL. I have exactly the same problem, and realised that I do some low dose amitryptiline in my drawer, so I have just taken one!! 👍
Yes. I have had exactly the same problem for 2 years now. Have had colonoscopy, CT scan, gastroscopy, blood tests and all normal except for a few small diverticula. Currently having a bout of severe discomfort around splenic flexure and left side but no way of alleviating the symptoms. Just hope it will subside in due course.
Yes I do, it’s not very nice, if I roll on my left side it wakes me up and I have to lay on my back for a while until the pain leaves.
Yes, pain sometimes on left side (stomach area)
My pain on the left side actually is away from the stomach area. However, it is more prominent when I am constipated
