Recommendation for Gluten Free Entrees

I am not a cook, so when I learned I had celiac (coeliac in UK) disease I was struggling to find prepared or easy to prepare meals and products that tasted very good, were easy to use, not over-priced and readily available. I finally found a company called "Kevin's" here in the US which satisfies those goals extremely well. It is all gluten free and intended for those with special dietary needs. I highly recommend it for Americans who are looking for such products.

They are mostly chicken entrees with 4-5 different sauce choices. The meat is cooked and ready to heat and season with a sauce. I don't know whether Kevin's has gone international, probably not.

I do not work for or profit from the company in any way, but want to help those who need a safe, tasty solution for entrees.

Hi fibnum, I became a Coeliac due to medication 2 years ago and was shocked and outraged at the price of gluten free food here in the UK. I've never heard of Kevin's, even when researching. I did discover though, that it's cheaper to make the things yourself. I'd read, read, read ingredients and realised there so many things you can buy that are not labelled Gluten Free. I managed to get a fantastic list from Pinterest which listed sneaky hidden Gluten in food. The frozen chips really shocked me though. I was lucky to already shop at a supermarket which was the cheapest and stocked the largest range of Gluten Free food, most of which was overpriced. Bread went out the window as I just couldn't get the batter right and refused to pay the astronomical prices for it, so substituted it with Gluten Free crackers which were cheap. My chocolate finds were down to a choice of 3 so I added some boiled sweets to my list. My meals basically remained the same with gravy granules being really cheap at the supermarket. Crisps were no problem as I found the supermarket brand fine and without Gluten. I was Gluten Free for around 18 months, lost almost 14 pounds but felt healthier. My gp finally believed me after I spoke to the hospital consultant after a severe flare up who then emailed the practice. So I bought the research about Gabapentin to show that I'm of the 4% of users to be thrown into becoming a Coeliac. Other medication and its dosage does this also. Just by reducing the dosage by 1 tablet each day stopped the Gluten issue. Amazing. All the best 😍

Thanks for writing, The only thing more harmful than gluten would probably be my cooking!

I use pre-made meals, mostly, except for fish or scrambled eggs. If a dish takes more than 3 steps, I usually eschew it. (I only count putting it in the microwave and taking it out as one step, though.)

I go to a local place that has a range of fully cooked foods to heat, some of which are GF.

Kevin's is a very fine product which has pre-cooked meat with sauces to add. The products are all made GF and have never given me any problems.

I gave up on bread also, When I go to a restaurant with family, though, the waiter always sets the basket of fresh-baked bread and butter right in front of me! For bread, I get GF tortillas here and use them to make sandwiches (wraps). It is not the same, but decent. I also can get okay frozen GF waffles.

There is a candy company called "Seas", which has shops in malls in the US. It is excellent and is all gluten free, except for a few items. There are also several good brands of GF chocolate bars on the grocery shelves.

I don't know why they can make really good cookies and cakes, but not bread or rolls.

You can get bad crackers here for only around $1.50 an ounce!

I need to research more as to whether any of my BP meds has gluten.

Thanks for sharing!
