I had a gastroscopy this afternoon after experiencing stomach and back pain, for over 2 years the consultant said I had gastritis and took biopsies for a urease test I've been taking ppi's for years and they've been no help I'm wondering if the test comes back normal have I got to look forward to this pain for the rest of my life.

is that different than ECG Endoscope? Just had one myself and since I have no indication of acid reflex...Gerd and what Prilosec is supposed to treat...I am stopping it and my pain has worsened lately. I am not sure that the Prilosec is not causing the pain. Maybe you had a different test?

I have had endoscopes before and they come back with gastritis for me. I have been on omeprazole for quite a while. Maybe they just need to up your usual dose for a few weeks and see if that clears it up. Good luck.

Having taken omeprazole for five years I came to the conclusion that they were causing or at least exacerbating my gastric and digestive problems. I stopped taking them and went back to an H2 Blocker. My symptoms eased and then, with other life changes, I came off the H2B and now use them as a one-off when I need to. I use slippery elm, aloe Vera juice and work at being more relaxed, which is showing benefits.I've said before on this forum that PPIs cause problems, not least fundic polyps. And yet they're handed out with the rations. I advise everyone to consider carefully before taking them as a long or medium term treatment. Consider the H2B alternative.

I agree about your experience with Omeprazole, Orchard33! I’ve been on it for 5 years (originally for helicobacter pylori) and doc told me I should stay on it as the chemistry in my stomach had changed. Now I have osteopenia (Omeprazole can cause osteoporosis) so I insisted on an endoscopy. They say all is normal but I’ve still got pain/IBS. Started aloe vera juice today so we’ll see . . .

It is H2 Blockers. I've since learnt that they're not a good idea either. I never take them now. Control of symptoms with Gaviscon rarely. I now rely on relaxation, slippery elm, aloe Vera, Symprove and colostrum. It's the long haul.

Hope you manage to find something to ease your symptoms, as I still struggle with gastritis a lot at the moment.
