Colonography

My colorectal nurse said I could consider a colonography this year mainly for peace of mind, as I get very anxious. My last colonoscopy was clear about 5 1/2 years ago and I’ve been told that any polyps etc are unlikely. But the decision to have the colonography is ‘up to me.’ Im having it in two weeks and starting to dream about it now! My surgery for colon cancer was 9 1/2 years ago and there have not been any concerns about any test results. It was an emergency right hemicolectomy. I have been given Gastrografin and Picosalax to take prior to the scan. I’ve read from other posts that Gastrografin will clear me out but I’m taking Picosalax as well? Any thoughts about anything? I’ve put it off for over a year now but it’s always on my mind.

I understand Gastrofrafin is classed as a mild laxative, I have not had it. Picolax, I have taken and thought it kinder to me than Moviprep which I took in June for my latest colonoscopy. Sure you will feel less anxious once it's over and I wish you good luck and health🍀

Go for it and get the peace of mind you deserve otherwise it will linger in your mind and spoil your life. I understand your thoughts completely having had them myself and still do.

Have you considered having CBT or other therapy to help deal with the emotional aspect alongside medical test reassurance which only lasts so long before we begin to fear that enough time has elapsed for illness to be rearing its head again. It may indeed help you.

The euphoria of being told all is well after a test is wonderful but once it begins to fade and time has elapsed the old demons creep in. Ask about emotional assistance it cant hurt and may very well help.

I had pixolax for my last colonoscopy a few months ago much calmer on my system than movicol, but be guided by your medics they often having clearing out medicine favourites. Best wishes.

Yes, I finally had the scan. No polyps or other areas of concern. If there is a next time I won’t wait nine months! I’m now 10 years 3 months post surgery… Prostate psa blood test recently was excellent as well.
