Viridian are quite good. I have taken the "Vegan Multi" which now costs just a bit over £10 for 90 capsules. They aren't full of all sorts of rubbish, and I think they're gluten and lactose free.

But check that any additional ingredients are OK for you.

Now Viridian do a liquid Vitamin D3 too which is easy to take and the dose can be easily adjusted (less or more as you wish) I haven't got that yet, but intend to in Autumn. I tried some the other day at my friend's house. It tastes a bit lemony.

But with D3 you can very safely take over the dosage in a multivitamin/mineral tablet. A "maintenance" dose recommended for every adult in winter starts at 400iu,

I have forgotten the upper limit for D3 supplementation but it is quite high. But the very high doses (10,000 iu and above) are best done with a doctor, and sometimes only once a week or for a short time to manage a serious deficiency.

Vitamin K2 is good to take with a D3, but I've forgotten the exact proportions as it's on a sliding scale with the D3 dosage. You may have to research that, or find a D3 with K2 added in the right proportions.

Oh, and I forgot to add. If you decide to supplement Magnesium separately the best form for someone with gut problems is Magnesium Glycinate as it doesn't upset the tummy. Other types of Magnesium can act as a laxative. OK if someone has IBS-C though.

I'm pretty happy with the multivitamins I get in the local store. You can do the same with vitamin D as well. Another good source of vitamin D is exposure to the sun, as well as foods like dairy, fish, OJ, tofu ...

Of course you are right and sufficient sun exposure is the generally accepted recommendation. However, there is a certain paradox in that the more tanned the skin becomes after sunburn, the worse the vitamin D is synthesized. So dark tanned skin does not guarantee a sufficient level of vitamin D. Quite the contrary.

If you're vit D defificient then your doctor can prescribe it in large doses. I'm chronically defificient and after taking a booster dose of 20,000iu a week for 12 weeks I'm now maintaining on 1600iu daily.

Hi, I also have IBS and BAM. I only take vitamin d. I was told by a private dietician not to waste your money on a multi vitamin, just to take the vitamins you are deficient in. Vitamin d is the vitamin most BAM suffers need . I buy mine from Healthspan and take a high dose all year round at breakfast time. I hope this helps as it is a shame to waste money on things we don't need. Take care Pollyboo

I have been only adding what I am deficient in lately. D and B - I was told to only use B that is Methylcobalamin. A specific type of B and was basically told that the other B that are not are not processed the same and do not give you the results needed. Thorne has one and many others as there is no lack of supplement companies these days. For Vit D I was told it should be taken with K2 as they work together to help it absorb better this is the one I have used to boost me from my not great levels and then I was maintaining with pills. isotonix.com/product/isoton...

That said I am not a Dr. and the only way to know levels is to get them taken and work from the numbers. Anyone that tells me I need to take something needs to back it up with some data. If not they are just chucking the stuff at the wall to see or try to "make me feel better" without knowing I am feeling better. But in gut sufferers like us much is in the mind also and placebos will in fact make us sometimes feel better
