Hi all, I've been suffering quite bad with my ibs flares ups even when I eat the foods that don't trigger me all of a sudden I can't eat anything at the moment, so I had a blood test and they told me my colestrol is not right and I need to take vit d tablets, well the receptionist told me this and I'm booked in for a doctors appointment in 2 weeks for the doctor to discus it all with me. Such a long wait . Has anyone else had this problem with colestrol and ibs and needing vit d, I am petite woman apart from my bloating stomach lol I thought colestrol problems are to do with the heart and maybe someone who's over weight .

I'm no expert and I don't know what your cholesterol problems are. But Ithink it would be far better to consult a doctor about your problem. I take statins for high cholesterol and vitamin D for low vitamin D levels. These two conditions are not connected, I believe. I have ibs too. What I'm trying to say is that you need an opinion from someone who is qualified.

Hi, I'm sorry you are going through all that. I was very surprised when my cardiologist told me I have very high blood pressure. I don't think the two are linked in my case or yours . It is good you are getting checked out. Even though you have to wait what seems like a lifetime. Try not to stress about it. Nowadays they can do so much with high cholesterol. They may put you on statins . It will help . Hope it all goes well x

I lowered my very high cholesterol by having a desertspoonful of olive oil a day and sterol capsules. I don't now need to take statins. My results were normal after 4 months without changing my diet.

This is a reply to everyone.I'm not recommending statins. As I said I'm no expert and I don't know what the person in question's cholesterol problems are. Hope they seek expert advice and feel better soon.

This is not about my diet. I was just suggesting Lilly seek advice from a doctor.

My husband who has always been healthy was diagnosed with elevated cholesterol 3 years ago. The doctor was determined to put him on statins but he was having none of it. He cut out any bad fats like in full fat cheese, and we only ever use rapeseed or pure olive oils, and very low fat cheese sparingly. I have IBS so we keep away from processed foods as much as possible. He's never been overweight in his life and always been active, we walk in the lake district year round. He never did take statins and his cholesterol came down to normal levels after 5 or 6 months. He's now 74. We thought there may have been some connection with Stress and high cholesterol as we were under stress at the time. It's worth exploring other avenues before resorting to statins.
