Have you tried your own intolerance tests to see if a certain food group, like dairy, is the cause of your symptoms ?

Hi Barnes5072

My Gastoenterologist drew by hand a basic anatomy of digestion to explain my ibs-d, I'm not for one second suggesting we're all the same & I like many other on here have a whole other set of triggers Inc emotional etc. But it was a huge relief to me when my doctor explained that I would have already taken the nutrients from my well balanced diet in my small intestine, before it travelled through to my large intestine/bowel where the problems start.....so basically if you want to take more vitamins etc then of course do, but should the Prof be right, we should at least be getting what we need from our food, even if that same food hurts us after 😳

I take centrium for women. No idea if it's doing anything but I like to think it goes some way to replenishing what I'm losing! x

You really need to ring what is causing it rather than trying to make up for it. Have you tried the Fodmaps way of eating to eliminate things which upset you?

Look it up on Monash University web site (nowhere else as there is a lot of conflicting info and Monash are the ones who developed it and are still updating their findings regularly). If you feel you would like to try it they have an app which is invaluable, in my opinion.

Alternatively you could try going gluten and/or dairy free for a few weeks and see if that helps

me too

Hi. I have had ibs for 30 + years and know how awful it is. My consultant put me on nortriptyline 10mg at night a couple of years ago. I still get breakthrough pain but instead of lasting months it lasts couple of days. I also take spasmonal which is similar to mebeverine when I get breakthrough pain and it stops it in its tracks.

Also I found I was deficient in vitamin d which has been proven to be more in people with ibs so get that checked also.

Not what you're looking for?
