Ultrasound showed Static bowel area

Hi all,

Have an update…

June 2023

I had a colonoscopy a couple of days ago. They found 2 small polyps which were removed. They took 4 biopsies which will take approx 6 weeks before my GP will get results.

I’ve also received an appointment for a CT Scan with Contrast for next week so am hopeful will have some answers soon(ish). Even if it confirms IBS at least this time they will have ruled out anything else before confirming conclusion of IBS 20 years ago.

Symptoms still the same… unformed stools every day. Waking up early a.m. with urgency. Going back to the toilet multiple times within minutes of each visit, 3 times fairly normal 5-7 occasionally.

…………….

Feb 2023

I recently had an ultrasound of my gut and bowel area. Results said I had a 5 - 5.5 cm area of static bowel. 😳 I have no idea what this means (if anything). Can anyone shed any light at all?

I still await a colonoscopy appointment but could be quite a while I’ve been warned.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like it's an area of tour bowel that doesn't work

yeah that’s what I thought, purely because of the word ‘static’ 😊 but I’ve never heard of it and found nothing on Google etc. so was hoping someone would have had the same/similar., thank you for taking the time to reply 👍

this can mean anything from heavy faecal loading causing a pseudo obstruction to other probs….this 1999 article explains:

wjgnet.com/1007-9327/full/v...

My impression is that the phrase ‘static bowel area’ more or less equates with ‘area of intestinal stasis’. Am guessing the phrase comes from your US radiologist’s report. So your gastroenterology consultant should explain the implications to you & what this observation means re the next stage of investigations in your case.

When I googled this phrase , almost all the articles using the phrase were published in the early 1900s, so am guessing it’s a phrase still used sometimes by radiology, but less so by gastroenterology clinicians

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the link 👍 The article is quite medically technical but I got the gist of it which is very helpful. I’ll wait to hear back with an appointment now and hope it’s quicker than the 42 weeks I’ve been quoted by the UK NHS.

Best regards
