Constant Pain in Right Abdomen

Hi, I am experiencing mild pain in my right abdomen all the time with no relief from bowel movements. Been this way for several months. I’ve had a full colonoscopy, MRI and various other tests which have all come up clear. Therefore, IBS has been diagnosed.

Does anyone else experience the same constant pain? If so, what have you done to resolve it? I also, because the pain doesn’t change with bowel movements, fear that it isn’t IBS and is something much worse. Any advice?

Do you have your gallbladder? That area is your liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Maybe request a scan? I had sort of the same thing and they found I have fatty liver, after losing alot of weight, the pain there stopped.

Could also be wind, have you tried some Wind-eze to see if that works? X

I’ve had an MRI of the whole area which was all clear. I assume they checked the gallbladder but I will confirm. I’ll give Windeze a try. Thanks

Hi I used to have constant right side (lower abdomen) pain so they did all the tests. Is just IBS. Try stress relief (even medication to get you out of that vicious cycle of anxiety about the pain, and pain due to anxiety) and a low residue diet to calm it down. I think it’s just inflammation. Also please look into the FODMAP Diet (NHS) where it tells you foods to strictly avoid such as onions, apples, too much wheat etc. I hope this works out for you.

I have just started a low FODMAP diet this week. It’s proving hard to adjust but I’m getting there. I imagine the gut just doesn’t bounce back immediately so I’m hoping/expecting the pain to gradually reduce over the next few weeks?

Takes about 6 weeks to get the best results on low fodmap :)

Yes it does take a while so make sure you’ve got plenty of variety in your Fodmap diet to help you stick it out. I do think low residue low FODMAP food for as long as you can stand will help calm down the inflammation. Things like chicken, boiled rice and eggs. Then introduce boiled veg and absolutely no salad. Terrible for IBS. Another thing that helped me was eating three meals a day, with at least 4 hours apart. No snacks! Not even milk in your tea. The reason for this is to give your small intestine time to fully pass the meal through. It self cleans so if we are constantly snacking you can get a build up of bacteria. No amount of supplements helped me, they cost a fortune! Oh and it’s only partly food related. Any stress or emotional baggage needs to be dealt with. I’m wishing you all the best because I know how it feels.

Have you spoken to your GP about pain relief e.g. low dose Amitriptyline?

If you've done colonic irrigation every day for 6 years, which you say isn't fun and you're still in a mess.....

Why are you doing it?

Personally things are supposed to come out out that particular hole and not go up it!!!

I would really consider stopping the irrigation especially after doing it every day for 6 years, this really can't be good for you.

Hi

I too had the same problem of a pain in the side, mine radiated around to my back. I had a bloated stomach with a persistent 25/7 pain in my side and back. After 8 weeks all the symptoms of IBS went but the pain remained. So a colonoscopy and numerous visits to the doc later it appears that I have also spinal issues which is causing the persistent. I am now waiting on another referral to a specialist.

So what I am saying really is .... you just never know. Keep seeing your doc until they get to the bottom of it all.

Hi I know this is old post could you tell me if you found out what spinal problem was causing your symptoms as I have the same ? X

It's the IBS. I get it in the same area. Really annoying pain. Buscapan usually takes it away.
