Help! Going slowly mad

I am 52 and I haven’t been diagnosed with IBS and have never suffered before but wonder if this is what I have. I have had on and off bad lower abdomen pains since the new year and been feeling really nauseous too. My tongue is bumpy, sensitive and sore and I feel generally unwell. No problems with either diarrhoea or constipation but a lot of gas in the evening/at night. I also have occasional back pain. Urine and blood tests all fine. My GP has been a bit dismissive but this is really affecting my life as I can’t get on and do anything and I need to work but finding it so hard! Wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom as I’m getting quite desperate (I normally enjoy good health) and can feel the anxiety and depression creeping in. Thank you x 😀

Hi Thirstycamel, it is quite common for GPs to be dismissive. You may need to be politely persistent. If you can have a look at your surgery's website, there maybe someone with a special interest in gut issues that you could try. Many GPs have little knowledge about IBS and other related problems. I have found that sometimes a practice nurse can be better informed about specific issues. Please try again and don't be fobbed off. You can ask for a referral if you wish.

Hi.Your symptoms sound like mine when I became gluten intolerant. I had really bad migraines too. I felt unwell all the time.

I did an intolerance test, and it showed I was gluten intolerant along with some other things too.

I had tests done at my doctors beforehand but everything was OK.

I've now gone completely gluten free, and I've never felt better. No bloating, excess gas, (which at the time was worse than a stink bomb, no joke) 😷😭

No headaches, no sore mouth, and no diahorra/constipation.

Hope you find out what's causing your issues. Good luck. xx

Hi Bluestones1, what was the gluten test, was that done at the doctors? Thanks

Sounds like food intolerances. You should follow elimination diet to determine if certain food is causing this problem. Take 25 mg. Meclizine when you have symptoms. It will ease your nausea, relax the gut, and expel the gas.

hi there, I’m 53 and been going through the exact same thing. My stomach pains were so bad I’ve been to a&e 5 times. I couldn’t even stand up straight. I have extreme lower pains , feel constantly sick and unwell. Mine started in September of last year. I literally open my bowls once a week if I’m lucky. I have had a colonoscopy, a bowl scan and an ultrasound scan. Everything thankfully has come back all clear so my doctor has now suggested ibs. For the last two weeks I have increased my fibre, I’m eating smaller meals including more fruit and veg and I’m drinking more water. I take two fibrogels a day and add a sprinkle of chia seeds to my yoghurts. I’ve just started to feel a bit better. I’m sure everything will be ok but I would ask your doctor to refer you for a test so it will put your mind at rest

HiNo it was a test done at a private clinic.

Just sent hair strands off ( with the roots) and within 10 days, got results back. Well worth it.

Xx

oh brilliant, thank you. A work colleague mentioned this today but I was a bit sceptical. I’m going to give it a go. Thanks again x

Your welcome. I was sceptical too, thought it was a load of rubbish tbh , but no, it was the best money I've ever spent.

Amongst other things, mine showed, a gluten intolerance, kiwi intolerance, which I love, 🙄 molasses, and bee stings.

Plus more, without looking at the report, I can't remember.

All that from hair strands.

So good luck. Let us know how you get on. xx

It sounds fab, I have no idea what is causing my stomach issues so I’m curious to see my results. I’ll keep you posted, thanks again x
