Can anyone who has both gastritis and a hernia give me some idea of their symptoms and how to cope with them? Ive had both for a long time, but since I had Covid I cant seem to get my gastritis to calm down at all. The pain is waking me most nights, Im nauseous and I have that tight corset feeling I get when my hernia is playing up. I feel like the gastritis has inflamed my stomach and its impacting on my hernia as well, but its going on so long its making me miserable. Within the last few months Ive had a gastroscope, Ultra sounds, blood tests etc and 2 weeks ago my GP changed me from lansoprazole to esomeprazole to see if that helped, but it hasn't. So, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Gastritis and hiatus hernia
Do you know where your hernia is? When I had a bad bout of diarrhea and pains my gp put me on famotidine for 2 months. You take 1 in evening before bed. That was about 5monthsgo Wish you better soon.
Sorry just saw you have a hiatus hernia. Sometimes that flares up with what your eating. Try not to eat 4 hours before bedtime
I have a hiatal hernia and acid reflux, and occasional ibs. My acid reflux would always act up when my stomach was empty. I have used omeprazole in the past which works well but my doc advised not to take over a long period of time, so I switched to famotidine when I have flare ups. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last year - the endoscopy confirmed the hernia. Also found out I have diverticulosis which is apparently common with aging, I asked my gastroenterologist what I can do about the diverticulosis to prevent diverticulitis, she said only this: eat a high fiber diet. So I changed my diet and increased fiber also try to reduce foods that slow down digestion like cheese. And low and behold my acid reflux has vastly improved. As long as the acid reflux is controlled I don't seem to have any problems with the hernia. I also suffer from migraines so if I end up having to take an NSAID like ibuprofen, then my stomach acts up and I have to take famotidine for a day or two. Not sure if any of this would be helpful for you. Hope you find something that helps. 😊
I have a small hiatal hernia and dealt with gastritis for several yrs. Nowadays it flares up when I have the wrong foods. It took yrs for things to calm down for me. I used and still currently use dgl, zinc carnosine, vit d3 and co factors and fish oil to help with the inflammation. When I have a bad flare up, I add in slippery elm gruel. To support my stomach I take probiotics and digestive enzymes.I had increased my intake of sardines/salmon and really stayed away from trigger foods.
H plyori is a major contributor to gastritis so maybe test for that if you havent .
How are you feeling now Valdee
symptoms are continuing. I wake up most nights at 4 am with an ‘uneasy’ stomach. Still have no appetite and discomfort all day. My normal pattern s of IBS etc are gone. I think that the flares in gastritis are actually a symptom rather than the end cause., Of what I’m not sure. Right now, the default is to give me inc doses of PPIs and then more scopes. But as these are deemed non urgent, that route would take at least 6 months and mean time I am hardly able to maintain any semblance of a normal life. Anyway, said this to my Gp and his response was that most of his patients in my position went to the nearest Spire gastro clinic, so that’s where I’m at. Even that’s taking a month to get a 1st appt. Bit dismal-bet you wish you hadn’t asked 😊
