Hi, I have been diagnosed with IBS-C but also have an inguinal hernia.
The pain that I get is right by the hernia site.
Has anybody else had similar?
The pain is continual at the moment and both Fybogel and Docusate don't seem to have helped despite making my stools somewhat softer ‐ they are still difficult to pass requiring straining and very little peristalsis feeling.

Must have the hernia repaired,i recently had the operation cost me 3,500 quid but worth it cus if left other problems can arrive,if not affordable get on the NHS list could be a long one but do it anyway. I am 79 years old still working nights in a supermarket.Best of luck-Clive
I have a hernia and constipation too, mine is a femoral hernia so a little further down. I refused a hernia op recently because i assumed my bowel problems caused the original one, so want to get that sorted before going through an op and it causing another!
Hi casares8, I believe mine started when I got constipated while awaiting surgery for an enlarged prostate. That was five years ago but my IBS and constipation only got really bad since Christmas. Perhaps my stress levels were increased though I also caught Covid on Christmas Day! Now, thanks to the A&E surgeon I saw last night, I know that my hernia is not urgent but definitely needs repairing. So now it's a case of just learning to live with the IBS and associated pain.
have you tried DulciEase tablets. I have hiatus hernia and IBS-C and they work. Take 2 in morning 2 at night and you will naturally go to the toilet. They completely soften the stool without any gripeness or discomfort. They work for me.
I can only add that Fybogel has helped me, also taking an occasional one-third sachet of Laxido. (I guess any of the stimulants might give the hernia discomfort but my anatomy isn't up to knowing.) The thing that I've found most helpful is keeping a very regular use of Fybogel - even when 'loose' it is supposed to bulk things up. Maybe you should seek doctor's advice about the hernia and how that impacts?
Where is your inguinal hernia & how did you get diagnosed with it?
I only ask as I sometimes think I have one. I have difficulty passing requiring straining and very little peristalsis feeling also. I also get pain in my groin etc.
I have also been diagnosed with IBS-C as well as Chronic Pelvic pain Syndrome.
It's in the lower left abdomen (groin). It was diagnosed by the GP and confirmed with an outpatient ultrasound scan. Your symptoms sound similar to mine.
The surgeons will probably tell you that constipation is not a hernia symptom but try speaking to anyone who has had a hernia who will confirm it is indeed a symptom!
I have IBS C and D and I was told by my natural pathic doctor that I don’t have to live with it he can cure it as he goes to the root of the problem and get rid of it. He is not medical science that just says I have to live with it
