Hello, I’m looking for advice on menopausal gastritis and ibs. On Omeprazole since last November. A rigid diet and no alcohol for six months now. Still have bad days but rebound stomach burning when I try to come off. Tried hrt but found the progesterone triggers more digestive symptoms so didn’t try for long. Anyone found it has improved their gastritis? I would like to know if hrt would have worked eventually if I’d persisted. I would love to eat normal food like chocolate again and maybe the odd glass of wine or any drink! Now it’s water or tea 🙄 one really good thing about Omeprazole is it does help ibs d 😌
Gastritis and hrt: Hello, I’m looking for advice... - IBS Network
Gastritis and hrt
Awful things and not really intended for long term use although many people have been on it for years.I got myself off omeprazole after reading how bad it was longterm on the thyroiduk forum, so I started using a prebiotic/probiotic combined capsule. I take one before breakfast and one before dinner and my acid reflux which was getting worse disappeared.
Yes I know it’s not a good drug to be on, but it does control the gastritis well and the ibs attacks are rare now. I know I will have to taper down soon. I tried probiotics but it didn’t help. I’ve got down from 40 mg a day to 30 so it’s a start. I just had no choice as the pain and burning was so bad it was my saviour.
I do remember how nice it was to feel relief from the hernia and acid pain. I hope you will soon find your own solution and wish the best to you.
Hi Flowerhill - have you been investigated for a common bacteria that can affect your digestion called H.Pylori ? Be sure to get this eliminated .Omeprazole didn’t help me - once I got my H.Pylori diagnosed and treated my upper digestive problems were much better. I have IBS but have learnt to manage / live with that . Best wishes Cathy
Hi Cathy, sadly I tested negative last summer when it all started, along with lots of other tests including gluten 😊
