Hi, it’s my first time on here, I am hoping to get more advice here than from my gp!
I have never drunk much alcohol because of problems with my ibs, but I find nowadays as soon as I have 1 glass of alcohol I get a really bad headache, any one have any ideas as to what causes this.
Hi Gogut. I had severe migraines and headaches many years ago and ibs most of my adult life .Was teetotal for over 10.years as alcohol was definitely one of the trggers.
Now in.my 60s I realise I had leaky gut so molecules crossing so lots of systemic inflammation leading to headaches and migraines.
Why not explore.food sensitivities. A clean non processed food regime really helped me, maybe try eliminating gluten? It took me years to realise this. Doctors are very sceptical about gluten.but over 10% of population may have non coeliac gluten sensitivity.

I am not sure what the cause might be. But many people with IBS are very alcohol intolerant. It's a pity, but the best option for you would be to always choose a safe drink. If you like beer, there are alchohol free beers and lagers, and they are really nice I think. If you like wine, go for grape juice (if your gut is happy with those options.)
And elderflower cordial let down with water or even sparkling water (if you can handle sparkling) is a lovely refreshing drink with some ice. But watch out for artificial sweeteners in drinks you choose, because some of them do a number on the gut with IBS. Sorbitol and xylitol act like laxatives. You might find something sweetened with ordinary sugar or coconut sugar or something in a health food shop (?)
Can be a yeast thing, esp if you are drinking wine or beer. They say spirits can be better. I sometimes can drink one or two wines, other times i cant. Better with food
