Permanent Diarrhoea

History: 76 year old female wth Divaticular Disease and Hiatus Hernia. Was morbidity obese. And have Diabetes type2. Still 2 stone overweight. Alway had what I thought was IBS But never diagnosed. Had several colonoscopy and told on last one that I was no longer suitable for further colonoscopy. Nothing ever found.

At the beginning of July I developed yellow diarrhoea, several times a day and uncontrollable upon standing. No change in diet. By mid July vomiting started as soon as I put even water in my mouth. Anti diarrhoea otc not working so did online consultation and was seen within 2 days. Given 4 stool tests to do and a blood test plus antibiotics. These turned diarrhoea green but it did not stop diarrhoea. Fast forward to Thursday 28th most tests back showing low B12 nothing more . Antibiotics finished back to bright yellow.

Today, Friday received sms saying last test back and clear therefore nothing more needs to be done, end of!

Have lost almost 1 stone cannot eat anything so I don’t try now . Drink small amounts of water which makes me feel nauseous, so weak I can no longer walk without help I feel like this is the end no more help on offer. Local hospital asking only emergencies to attend so nowhere to go for any further help. So I assume ‘this is it’

Did your stool test test for infection like giardia or something else? Giardia can cause yellow diarrhea and nausea. Do you drink well water or mains water? If it is well water, sometimes that can have something in it. I got that info once from my doctor.

Did you have a blood test, to see how your liver and pancreas are doing?

If you can't eat, and can't even drink much water, your electrolytes will hit rock bottom, and when that happens it can also cause symptoms like nausea etc. Is there at least some electrolyte drink you could take sips of which might at least give you a bit more strength.

Don't forget that dehydration esp. in an older person IS an emergency! So if you think that's happening don't hesitate to call emergency services. You might need a drip for fluids. Maybe I'm too optimistic, based on what I remember the NHS used to be, but imagine if you were taken in for that you may also get some other attention for your condition.

But I don't know as things are not what they used to be.

I am sorry you are having to go through all this alone I suppose. Sending you a hug and kind wishes. I hope something can be found to help you out of this situation.

♥️

I don't know how the healthcare system works there, but it sounds like you need emergency help for dehydration and as someone else said, loss of electrolytes I don't know if you have family or friends who can take you to an Emergency Room. If not, can you call an ambulance or Fire Department ambulance to transport you to a hospital? You can't just be left to die even if they don't know your diagnosis yet. Do something immediately so you can get

IV fluids.

Low B12 can cause a lot of issues get some B12 from health shop, a lack of B12 can cause diarrhoea and diarrhoea makes your B12 lower it’s a circle that needs to be broken. You more than likely had a bug that started the diarrhoea that lowered the B12 the bug would have passed then the low B12 carries the diarrhoea on. When my diarrhoea is bad I have to take B12 supplements, my GP don’t agree but I notice the change.

Thanks for the advice. I am on mains water, they say no bugs found, no blood either. I live alone and have no family. At the start of Covid I was really unwell (not Covid) GP over phone told me all in my head and to stop calling 111. I only called them twice and on the second occasion actually ended up in hospital for 3 days. This was found to be hiatus hernia with stomach nearly all the way up through hernia.

I refuse to see that particular GP anymore, but neither would I phone 111 as I suspect she has placed some kind of marker against my name .

I did an Asda delivery yesterday for diorolyte and and some flavoured water, when order arrived all out of stock. Sent sparkling water but I never have been able to tolerate anything carbonated.

Hospital is only accepting ambulance patients in AE all others told to contact GP. Sorry for long rant but I just feel so weak and helpless

That's typical of online orders. Theone thing you most desperately need they substitute. Do you have an amazon account? If you do a Prime free trial for 30 days you will get next day delivery and no delivery charge for dioralyte or another electrolyte drink.

In the meantime add some salt and some sugar to water. Not much, just a pinch of both, and sip slowly. Hyponatremia (low salt in your body) can cause some bad side effects, and that can cause nausea too if it's very bad. Salt also helps the cells hold on to any water.

Well, I would call an ambulance unless you are able to begin to drink a little and eat a little.

Try a teaspoon of water or flat coke every 10 minutes and maybe one or two crackers every hour.

If this doesn't help pretty fast, call an ambulance, as I am not a doctor.

Yes, I think you should call an ambulance too. Apart from dehydration it's not good if you have diabetes, to not be able to eat or drink anything. Your blood sugar will be all over the place, and dipping too low.
