I have had pains on my right side for 14 years. Sometimes better other times pretty bad that I constantly have hot water bottle on it. I had colonoscopy, blood tests, scans 4 years ago and nothing was found. Most of the IBS sufferers here say pain is on the left but I never have pain on the left side. I have Oral Allergy Syndrome which is food allergy. Just wondering whether my is from that allergy or IBS. I do get alternating diarrhoea and constipation and low mood/anxiety when I am having bad days/weeks. When I have ir pretty bad I think I may have the big C 😟
What do you all think? IBS or not?

A lot of people on here have pains on their right side. I certainly do. I have had IBS for 35 years. It started out as IBS(D) and has changed over the years. For the first 15 years it was on my left hand side. Then about 20 years ago it started going over to my right hand side which is when I really lost the plot. It didn't make any sense to me! It seems to alternate on a daily basis. One day its on the left and then next on the right. Although sometimes it can stay on the right for a few days!
Thank you for your input Maureen1958. It must be a nightmare it moving around.
Being someone who had it that long, what did you learn? Does it cause physical damage to stomach, is there any medication that helps. I had a nasty flare for 2 weeks and now have an appointment with my GP but not sure what to ask for. Any guidance?
Actually it moving around is not so bad, as a change is as good as a rest so to speak.
It's difficult to learn what to do as it always seems to be changing, with the seasons, with time, with age. It can cause physical damage, ie prolapses, but that doesn't happen that often and would not happen overnight. Medications can interact with each other, also if you take something for diarrhoea you can then end up bunged up and if you take something for constipation you can end up with diarrhoea so I try not to take anything and just try to go with it. If I feel I'm a bit runny, I try to eat something that will soak it up (bread/toast maybe) and if I'm a bit bunged up eat something that will push it through (beans or mushrooms). I'm not sure what you could ask for at your appointment, see what they suggest if anything and good luck.
Oh! Not being able to enjoy the summer must be annoying.
I get some days where I have no diarrhoea nor constipation, pain pretty much goes away and I feel energetic and realise what normal life is like but in a day or two I am back to the survival mode when my symptoms show up again
When pain it's most of the time in my lower right abdomen, lower right back but also pelvic pain. All visceral pain? I have been diagnosed with constipation predominant IBS with overflow diarrhea.
Diagnose was done by a gastroenterologist 2 years ago. The examinations I had are Colon transit time (twice), CT scan, x-ray, colonoscopy (twice), MRI scan and blood tests. And of course the consultations with the gastroenterologist.
That is the same as I had though I had colonoscopy once. They found nothing of concern.
So for you, did the fact they did not find anything meant they told you that you had IBS? They said to me that I had nothing wrong and the specialist discharged me.
Yes, that is the diagnosis after having excluded all other possibilities. The only examination that hasn't been done yet is a breath test for sibo but my new gastroenterologist is going to schedule one for me. I always have had the idea that's a microbiome, bacterial issue because in the past I reacted well on antibiotics, would say that when on and shortly after a course I did feel well. But as soon as the antibiotics stopped working I became more sick. That's also why I'm trying a probiotic currently.
My wife suffers from IBS and like you she has her pain in her right side very acute cannot even touch it herself she was told IBS pain always on the left side so I hope this assures you that you are not alone.🧙♂️🐺Regards Peter Lhotka
