I’m hopeful to finally be getting some answers. After at least 25 years and visits to my Gp I finally mange to convince my doctor to give me a FIT test and feacal calprotectin test along with 13 blood tests. I couldn’t go on with the being told it’s probably ibs and not ruling everything else out. The pain has been awful of late and I want answers. Let’s see what my tests show next week.

Tests
Have you never been given any tests before, that's appalling?
I have had the test for cealiac disease and that’s it. It all those years I have just been told “ it’s probably ibs” and given mebravine.
I have had IBS for 35 years now and can't remember if I was given any tests at the start or not. I can't actually remember having blood tests or a stool test, but I may have. I had a colonoscopy about 25 years ago. Sometimes you have to make a nuisance of yourself to get anything done. Glad they are taking some notice at last! Let us know the outcome when you get your results.
I carnt believe u haven't had any test in all them years hope they all come back ok for u keep us all informed
It’s a nervous wait at the moment. I just labelled with o it’s probably ibs and given mebravine. I have had to fight tooth and nail to get these tests . It’s awful how patients are fobbed off. We all know when there is something wrong with our body’s.
Yes I now what u mean I had to keep asking to be referred to the gastroenterologist I finally have my appointment on Monday so hopefully find out if they will do more test I have been on a bad flare since January so hopefully I will get to the bottom of it soon. Keep nagging that's the only way we get anywhere u now ur body better than anyone else as they say if it doesn't feel right get it checked out good Luck and keep us informed
Hi, similar situation here. 12 years I’ve been struggling along in agony, although I’ve had lots of blood tests and some ultrasound scans over the years, all of which always come back frustratingly clear. Yet I’m still in abdominal agony. GP’s have told me “you’ll just have to accept it’s an issue that’s not going to be resolved”, “if it’s not killed you by now it’s not likely to so look at that as a positive” and “are you sure you’re not imagining the pain is worse than it really is”. A month ago I saw my practice nurse for my smear. I told her I was trying an elimination diet as I thought i might have a food intolerance although my gluten intolerance test was negative many years ago, my gut feeling was I was eating something that my stomach didn’t like. So far I’d cut out onions, garlic, tomatoes and wheat. The nurse was appalled at my health story. She immediately booked me a face to face appointment with one of the ‘better’ doctors as she called it. He listened and took yet more bloods and announced he thought it was IBS and gave me mebeverine. Within 24 hours of taking mebeverine my pain had doubled and I felt really sick. I discovered mebeverine contains lactose….. dairy was next on my list of things to eliminate so I thought it was worth starting ASAP. The difference in my pain is incredible, it’s almost gone. I have a telephone appointment with my GP on Monday, all my recent bloods came back clear and this is usually the point where they shrug their shoulders and I disappear with my head hung low because they don’t offer anything further. Well not this time. I am asking for a lactose intolerance test and a referral to a dietitian for a start. You need to fight for you and your health. My practice nurse said if you were my sister I’d be telling you to get back to the doctor for further investigation because something is not right. Good luck and I hope you get answers soon, you absolutely deserve to be pain free xx
