Hi, having tried to find testing for food intolerance in the North West I'm at a loss as all I can find in Allergy tests as Pandora reminded me these are not the same & has her blood tests but lives in the South of England. Does anyone know of testing please as everything I been diagnosed with are all Assumptions. Thanks Jackie

I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for you but would just like to say that I'm looking for someone in North East England and I'm struggling too! I was thinking about asking my GP? Maybe they'd have a list of clinics etc. that do it?

Hope I helped and good luck!

Hi

Have a look on the allergy UK site I think that's a really good site and you should find what your looking for, also try putting in vega testing in a search for north west.

Will do,thanks

Intolerance tests may not be definitive

You could try your own by leaving one food group out of your diet at a time for about 2/3 weeks keeping a food and bowel movement diary to see what changes there might be. Try leaving our dairy or gluten first

Thanks for that. As wk 3 next week I was going to try what you said. Already lactose free as I know the reaction is very quick & not nice if caught out!

I'm still going to ask for the breath test for accurate diagnosis.

Thanks once again.

I have been strict & will reintroduce foods next wk & see how I go on. Found a Consultant via Spires BUPA hosp who works in the Immunology Dept at Local Hosp too. will see my GP for my history to be faxed acrossed when I ask her next week & see what happens then.

Thanks.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

bda.uk.com/foodfacts/Allerg...

It might be worth reading the fact sheet issued by The Association of UK Dietitians on the above link.

I'm asking for a referral today to see if the Immunologist is the right person to go to next.

Can't understand why my Gastroenterologist hasn't referred me on to anyone else. Mind you it was me who suggested a dietician may help........Or not??

Thanks Pandora, assumptions are not good unless tried & tested.

I had lactose free semi skimmed hot chocolate as per dietitians instructions on Saturday evening. Was ok ish yesterday. So pushing my luck having out in the cold I thought I'd have another one & a toasted (free from everything) hot cross bun....which I've had before & no repercussions. So then I pushed my luck & had another bun & whoa!!!!!!! Doubled up in pain, cramps & bloated. Not been like that for ages. So what caused that?

I think it was the hot chocolate, I read the ingredients yes there's cocoa but hey that's in plain choc too?

Any ideas? No hot choc today!

Re the hot chocolate you may be sensitive to the milk protein- I think its casein- not just the lactose - check out milk protein intolerance yorktest.com/milk-allergy-o...

it also mentions milk allergy which has a much more serious reaction but equally annoying is intolerance.

Thanks for replying. A few weeks ago I asked my GP to refer me for the Hydrogen Breath test. She had already mentioned different allergies people suffer from & suggest I start to reintroduce Lactose products.

Well I'm 'normal' if there is such a word for someone having IBS.

As one Consultant decided I had Lactose Intolerence, the symptoms are so similar to IBS he said stop eating dairy products 4 years ago!!

Having reintroduced dairy products I'm fine. I had a 99 ice cream last week & wow it was delicious.

So of course not everyone who is diagnosed as Lactose Intolerence doesn't mean to say they're not, but in my case I was mis-diagnosed.

Thanks again,

Jackie

Take Care.

I have had mine done

The York Test . They send you a pack for you to take a blood sample and return

It does cost money, but I can recommend. My test came back, gobsmacked! I am intolerant to yeast. Well worth paying for, after several years of ill health. Wish I had know about it years ago
