Digestive enzymes - IBS-C

Hi there,

Does anyone use digestive enzymes to help with bloating and constipation? I suffer with IBS-C and I am finding foods like gluten and dairy to be the main causes. I am also deficient in iron (twice in 2 years) due to nutrients not being absorbed properly. I am wondering if a digestive enzyme might help break down these foods and therefore helping with digestion? Any information / advise would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Hi, I too suffer from severe and chronic IBS-C. I used digestive enzymes (I can't remember which one) and I think it caused me to be more constipated! I should have tried others but not sure why I didn't. I give up easily at times because nothing seems to help. I had anemia and was put on Ferrous Sulfate (high dosage iron pill) several yearsago. Iron is the worst for constipation as is Aleve, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Vitamin D, potassium, and Opiates. I remember when I was put on it..it wasn't meant to be a long term solution and even though stool softeners don't really work for me for some reason they did help with the iron constipation. I think I took Colace or Docusate Sodium. I took 3 a day in the morning.

Yes digestive enzymes are great . My functional medicine doctor put me on on that’s called IB-Zyme by Alpha Science. Take 2 …… 10 mins before each meat and then I take LGS Gut Therapy GI-Revival by NU Life it’s a fibre that’s gluten free and as well has L-glutamine, marshmallow root in it . You should go see a functional medicine doctor they are so with it.

Ive just started taking L glutamine I've had chronic constipation for years I've tried every high fibre diet etc and standard laxatives don't work for me. I'm on prucalopride for it which seem to be helping but they aren't widely prescribed unfortunately 😔

Hi..I have same problem. Does the L- glutamine work for IBS-C? Or worked for you? What strength do you take? This sounds very interesting. I'll Google it to see if I can find more information.. or if you can send me any links I would be very grateful. Either on this thread or you can pm me. Thanks. 😊 Have a blessed day
