It sounds pretty much like I used to have years ago when my IBS first started.

This IBS sure keeps us on our toes that’s for sure, mine has been good for a few weeks then last week the dreaded D started then it turned the other way. I have had IBS for about 30 years and it still gets me, it lets me think all is well then kicks me back in line lol

I have had it for 35 years now, daily since my son was born 28 years ago. I still have no idea what I am doing wrong! 🙃

One of my biggest triggers is tap water, it’s the fluoride the water company puts in it, I also keep a check on my soluble and insoluble fibre. I can’t tolerate dairy, I also suffer a lot of water infections.

So does that mean you can't make hot drinks (tea/coffee/etc) with tap water?

I use bottled water from Sainsbury, when I first found I had issues with tap water and found a bottled water that agreed with me I contacted the company in Yorkshire and they told me it’s really common and the reason some bottled water is ok and others are not depends what part of the country it comes from and what it has been filtered through, like chalk sand rock ect ect, when I told my dietician she oh yes tap water can be terrible for some IBS sufferers. I then asked why no one told me she didn’t answer. When I looked into it fearing in Essex has the highest levels of fluoride in the country and I live about 15 miles from there. The water that suits me the best is from Sheply springs.

That's very interesting. When my IBS first started, I moved from Kent to Surrey and felt my IBS got worse. A couple of times I stayed at my parents house (in Kent) when my son was little and my husband was away on business. I found my IBS was better when I was there, so started wondering if it could be the water and tried bottled water for a while but it didn't seem to help. I remember phoning the water board asking them about what was in the water but didn't get much sense out of them? Interesting that we both had the same idea!

There's a condition called ' Tenesmus ' (look it up) I assume you suffer constipation as well

Yes . mine began 10 years ago and Dr eventually sent me for ultra sound and then colonoscopy. both clear. So he virtually washed his hands of me and made me feel like a nuiscance going to see him.

So gave up and just self medicate with co codamol and buscopan. Seems I have it for life now

I get more right side pain now, I think because it's not as runny as it used to be! It was easier to push it out when it was on the left side (but of course when I did I'd just have another lot takes its place). You just can't win with IBS.

Strange how it changes the pain used to be low down now it’s higher up wish it would make its mind up , I’m being held hostage by my bowels since my scan the gastrophin still working a week later !!!! Sneaky stuff 🤣x

That feeling of needing to go all the time and wanting to have a good fart to relieve the pressure is usually an indication that I have some inflammation going on. I go back to my low fodmap/sugar free regime for a while and drink a lot more water and it goes away slowly but surely. It's now a 'good' (debatable) signal that I'm straying a bit too far from my usual routine and having a few too many 'justa's'.
