In middle of being diagnosed

I had my gallbladder removed 15 months ago and have had terrible bouts of diarrhoea since I sometimes get a warning of gurgling sore stomach and know to get to a loo quick!! If not I’ve had accidents 😣 I’ve been attending the doctor about it and he’s been very good, he arranged a colonoscopy and thankfully it was clear (they were looking for cancer) I was then told I’d get a telephone appointment from a gastroenterologist, so he phoned this week and said I don’t know why I’ve been asked to phone you we’ve checked it’s not cancer but likely ibs and anymore questions see your gp. I felt I was being a nuisance but it wasn’t my idea to have the phone call. This diarrhoea problem can be up to 8 times a day I’m thankfully shielding so I’ve not been out, I’m dreading going back to work, some days nothing. I’ve done food diaries and not seen any triggers from that. I know the nhs are so busy but I would like an answer and not just be added to the ibs list. I’ve read so much about living without a gallbladder I so wish I still had mine but mine. Jen

Thanks for your reply. I don’t think it’s ibs either I believe it’s bile acid diarrhoea but unfortunately it’s not as likely to be diagnosed and easier to just say ibs.. I’ve read lots have “BAD” or “BAM” and often just diagnosed as ibs I’ve a very young doctor I’m hoping he’ll look into it for me

I think your right bam is from having it removed not sure if there’s enzymes or something you can take for it x

Ask your doctor for a SeHCAT test, you would need to be referred to a hospital to do this. I can't see how they can say no as you have had your gallbladder removed. I have had this test (but didn't reach the criteria so was not able to try the bile sequestrant to see if it worked). Feel free to ask me any questions you might have about it.

Ask to be referred to a different gastro. I had exactly the same problems after gall bladder removal. Absolute nightmare. GP did tests for infection and cancer - all clear. I asked to be referred back to the hospital where gall bladder had been removed. They said I had bile acid malabsorption as a result of losing gall bladder. Now take tablets every day that worked almost instantly and have completely solved the problem.

Thank you so much for replying that gives me so much hope I really do think it’s gallbladder related 🥰 I agree it’s a nightmare I’m scared to leave the house I’ve been shielding and can go back to work at the end of the month. I’ll be taking a change of clothes with me 😕 it seems too easy to diagnose it as ibs

If it`s any help, my dad had similar after the removal but luckily it gradually cleared up and although still loose it became more predictable. good luck.
