Lower abdominal discomfort after opening bowels

I'm getting a lot of lower abdominal pain after going to the toilet in the morning. It started a day or so after having a bout of diarrhoea. Stools look more or less normal and I'm not going to the toilet any more often. I just can't get rid of this discomfort which feels as if I'm going to have a bout of diarrhoea but nothing happens.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to what it might be or what I could take to help. I already take psyllium husk soluble fibre after a previous diagnosis of functional bowel disorder. These helped me get back to normal after a long episode of loose and frequent stools, but I seem to be having a bit of a flare up with the abdominal pain even though I don't have diarrhoea.

Hi, I get this, I can have a bowel movement in the morning and my tummy never feels settled and like I could go again but it don't get that far. I've been diagnosed with ibs c with overflow d and they think it may be down to a functional motility issue. Have you tried mebeverine? It can help with spasms and might calm things down a bit for you, your gp can prescribe it.

Thank you so much. I'll certainly ask my GP to prescribe mebeverine. It's reassuring knowing that someone else has the same problem.

This has been me lately! It is driving me crazy! It seems to be happening once a month as of late. Lasts for a few days and then I am back on track once things settle down. I have no idea at this point what is causing it. Other than maybe hormones? I was prescribed an antispasmodic, but only just picked it up so I haven’t tried it yet. I am always nervous to try new meds but am willing to try whatever to help this yucky pain. Sorry I am not more help. I hope you feel better!

This is exactly what's happening to me. Since the first prolonged bout, I seem to relapse every month or so for about a week then get back on track again. I hope your anti spasmodics work for you. I'm just about to try mebeverine. Good luck.

This is very much similar to me, I have been taking Mebeverine for nearly 2 weeks with some help. I am going to try psyllium husk mixed with Kefir. Hopefully that should help. Good luck.
