So hey guys,

I'm 17 years old. I started having problems with my bowel movement due to the stress and anxiety that I got from the headline from google. I searched my symptoms and said the c word. I was constipation for 2 weeks and now I have had loose stool and diarrhea. I have not had blood in the stool. I have also had stool test (FIT) and blood test which all came back normal expect from liver enzymes. I have bloating, and large noises from the stomach. I'm really worried and scared.

The important thing, in your case, is that when you took the medication your symptoms eased or disappeared. This would, generally, indicate a correct diagnosis by the doctor. I know it is easy to say don't worry, but one of the symptoms of IBS is to cause worry and anxiety. I would ask the GP to consider giving you some medication, temporarily, to ease your anxiety.

You need to speak to your doctor really but if you're bowels are making noises that's a good thing. A blockage is extremely painful and trust me you would know about it. With a blockage you don't pass gas or have any bowel movements. Being constipated is common and so is switching from firm to loose motions.

Key things to watch for are losing a lot of weight quickly without trying, blood in stools and night time diarrhea and pain. These are what they call red flag symptoms and you would get an urgent referral for a Colonoscopy and a gastro consultant.

If mebeverine has helped then this does sound more like IBS and a lot can also be helped by watching what you eat and drink

Hi, i hear you. I've also had loose stools and lost weight due to not eating mainly caused by stress.

Get yourself a h pylori test! Causes some of the symptoms you have and is certainly common. Also the bug causes anxiety by lowering serotonin in

Hi ,I am 63 now, and have had what your going through for 30 years, a long time, and just like you I worried myself sick, I now know ,that's exactly what makes it all worst, just keep seeing the doctor ,until you find out what it is, but above all try not to worry, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis, in the end, which I am learning to live with,I'm sure you too will get there, all the best x

It's not a good idea to search online, as the information is not always accurate & can cause you unnecessary stress & anxiety

It could be that you have suddenly become lactose intolerant. Avoid anything with dairy in it (including whey powder and lactose) for 2 weeks and see if your symptoms clear up. If they don't then you may well have IBS. If so stick to a low Fodmap diet of only soluable fibre. You can find the Fodmap diet on the internet.

Can be IBS-C with lactose intolerance.

Chance of having bowel cancer is 4% in a lifetime. At your age? Close to 0%, unless you have family history.

A lot of people have IBS, some have IBD and only very few have C, your age and the numbers are at your side.

Let's be real here.

If they have done those tests does not sound like cancer. Put that out of your mind.

the doctor has tested you and found no blood which is a good result so you can relax about that idea.

I think finding what helps your body to work better is the best. Something to help you relax will also help - what do find relaxing to do? Do more of it if you can.

The only other thing is did he say what you could do about the liver enzymes or is there anything that can help to supplement with ?

Things that help me

1 walks

2 exercise of any kind

3 meditation - sit quietly and repeat a relaxing sentence to yourself just ONE - it doesnt matter what it is it could be an affirmation like - I am a strong person,

God is with me,

I am loved,

I am relaxed

IT is whatever helps you to feel good. Speak it slowly to yourself in your mind and repeat for one minute then go up to more time each day.

Although it will feel odd at first the repeated positive phrase helps the brain calm down and work in a less anxious way, Just start with one phrase that you pick for 5 minutes a day then you may work up to longer.

4 make a list of positives in your day every day - helps you not dwell on the negatives so much

5 pray - God is there for all of us - you may be a different religion to me or none but I know if you reach out God will hear you and help you whatever you call Him.

6 talk to friends or family if you can about how you are

7 do something nice for someone else - any small thing will do

8 take a mindfulness course online - mindfulness is a discipline that helps you stay in the present moment (so there is less worry about past or future events) It helps calm your mind and body down, so the stress reduces gradually. It takes time but is worth it. It has been scientifically proven to help most people.

These are things that all can help keep the mind and body healthy,

Hope one or more will help you - God bless and help you on your journey to health xx

Did your GP also take a stool sample?:

At 17 years old, it is highly unlikely that you have 'c'.

If you are not producing enough enzymes, this could affect how you process food. What is the doctor doing about your enzyme issues - are they carrying out further investigation around this?

Hi there I’ve had this since a teenager I’m nearly 50 now .i understand how scared you must feel I was the same thinking it must be something sinister .the symptoms are pretty scary and does make people anxious ,you can control it ,stress is your enemy it does disrupt your intestines ibs sufferers have sensitive guts easily upset by stress ,food intolerances ,do try not to worry your not alone take care x
