IBS - I've had enough

I've been suffering with this for four months now and don't know what to do.

I've had my blood test and stool sample test, both have come back good.

Every day I'm having to deal with abdominal pain, a burning sensation (it feels fo sore) and back ache. From the time I get up in the morning to the time I go to bed. I try to focus on other things to get through the day but it's so draining, I just want to cry. I don't suffer with D or C.

It's taking over my everyday life.

Do any of you suffer the same symptoms and what do you do to manage it?

ave you tried using pro-biotics to re-balance the bowel and intestines? Have you tried Buscopan to help with the stomach pain and cramps? Have you been referred to a dietician to amend or advise you on your diet? Have you been referred to a Gastrointestinal (GI) or Gastroenterologist for further examinations and investigations? Please don't give up, there is so much help out there if you only know where to look for it! What medication have you been prescribed for the pain? Good luck and stay safe.

Hi, I've been referred for a scan, for completeness. I'm just waiting for the date. I've been given co-codemol for the pain and have some fodmap books that I've read through and started following this today.

The biggest problem with all pain killers (analgesics) is they tend to constipate you, which can cause a different sort of pain. Having said that, you have to realise that pain is only one of many ways the body tells us something is wrong ( like an alarm), and like an alarm, once we have noted it and started to correct things the pain should be turned off. If your GP is unable to turn the alarm off then you need someone, more qualified to help (alarm keyholder to alarm engineer) ie: a GI or gastroenterologist. Good luck and stay safe

You are going around in a circle and I suggest you go back to your GP he/she has a duty of care to try and keep you pain free. FReedman has asked some very good questions and I would add one more have you ever had Gynae problems? Don't give up, once your know what the problem is your anxiety levels will go down and you will feel better

Hi Linley, why did you ask about gynae problems, cause my symptoms are the same as this lady’s and I suffer with gynae related problems. Thank you

Hi annel73

Probably because us ladies have all our bits in the same area. 😉IBS and some Gyna probs have similar symptoms, so through personal experience I sometimes ask ladies if it could be a Gynae problem, most of the time it's not but a couple of times it has been.

Hiya, I understand how you feel. Its awful i get you. What i find helps is a hot water bottle bag and drinking loadssss of water. This help reduce the pains a little bit. And if this doesn't work try making a doctors appointment.

Also are you constipated? Because I was in te same boat as you a few weeks ago and i didn't know I was constipated until i rang the doctor and got asked lots of questions and prescribed me with Laxido (which basically gets rid of ypur constipation) and I noticed within 3 days my abdominal pain disappeared and i was shocked.

Hope this helps😊

I've had IBS and other intesinal issues for years now. Have you been tested for Gastritis? That can be even more painful than IBS. Have you had a recent Endoscopy and or Colonoscopy?

Oh Debbie, I feel your pain , I too have burning on pooping just horrid !!! I take nurofen regularly and this seems to help also immodium to stop my D flow, I have had blood test all normal , small blood in stool test waiting for telephone consultation with consultant to see next stage ... I too have had enough and am looking for natural remedies . I cook everything from fresh and do know my D triggers and stick to these to aid my bowel. I also manage my anxiety very well I am told and remain calm all the time keep in touch xxx

I've suffered with this for many years. The only way to cope is through careful diet. No alcohol, fizzy drinks of any kind. No onion or garlic or any related vrg. No spices. Keep to a very low Fodmaps diet.

The first thing I would suggest is to exclude all dairy/lactose for 3 wks. Many IBS sufferers are intolerant to milk of any kind. You may need to do a few exclusion diets until you discover your intolerances and triggers. Goid luck.

Hi Deb sorry to hear your sad I was also in same place after suffering for over a year a friend told me to follow the Keto/Atkins diet or lifestyle and after 1 week I was amazed I felt great stronger healthier I had energy again and I also lost weight I have lapsed once or twice and started taking in carbs again and straight away almost I was back in pain like you described so I’ve accepted this is how I live my shall we say culinarily life now. I take Sertraline 100 mg once a day its an anti depressant to keep anxiety levels down as stress does not help IBS sufferers, and its the IBS that gives us the anxiety, vicious circle. But the best medicine for me is Alverine Citrate 60mg which I take 3 times a day. Beg your doctor for this combination it did help me. Buscopan was useless. I never leave leave home without Imodium instants and take them before I go out as a precaution. I have lived like this for years I try not to let it rule my life but its a tough one. I never have constipation just loose. Know your triggers onions are banned from my diet and if you could follow the FODMAP diet it would help you more. Not easy and drink loads of water which is my downfall. Good luck hope these tips will help you and other fellow suffers I am 64 now so can honestly say I have tried everything.

I've started using peppermint oil from Holland & Barrett . I'd used it in the past with success & hadn't used it since, until my IBS flared up again about six months ago. webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre...

I have been using Metamucil after lunch and dinner and so far my issues have greatly diminished. Good luck. This was my Doctor's recommendation.

Do you drink enough water? Recommended 2 litres or more per day. The only other point I would note is that the low fodmap diet makes more sense and is easier to follow if you are advised by a dietician. (Your GP can refer you to one on the NHS). Sorry for the late addendum to my earlie response. Stay safe
