IBS or...

Hi folks.

Around 2 and a half years ago I went to my GP with a pain in my right side/hip area which depending on which way I was sitting would radiate into my back, groin and testicle. I was back and forward to my GP for around 6 months before we found a hernia just above my groin. My GP said he wasn't convinced the pain was coming from my hernia.

The hernia was repaired around a year and a half ago but the pain is still there and it comes and yoes. For the last 7/8 months I've had loose stools, mucus, dark stools. I've had a qfit and faecal caloprotectin test done a few times as well as bloods. My faecal Cal came back as slightly inflamed with a score of 70 but wasn't considered high enough to further investigate. Since these symptoms have started (7/8 months) I can count on 2 hands how many days I've not woken up with a heavy feeling in my stomach and really bad gas. Going 2/3 times for a few days then nothing the next, I never do a normal full stool. It's always very loose, thinish and comes out in 4/5 bits. Also, noticed a few times that it seems like there's full bits of food in it. Strange, but I've been told by a specialist that IBS, anxiety and I'm a worrier, and I'm too young (31) for it to be anything sinister.

I'm wondering if anyone else has anything similar to this? Just trying to decide what I'm going to do next. I've recently been upping my intake of fruit and veg and seeds etc in smoothies. Not working so far.

Thank you

There is loads of helpful advice and tips on here:

You may want to consider a probiotic (see the link) and if that doesn't work a fodmap elimination and reintroduction diet (all discussed on the website). It is possible that some fruits and veg may make your symptoms worse depending on your tolerance.

Yes I had the same as you're describing including pain in my right testicle. I did the google search and found this website through other men who also had the same symptoms who had all been tested and were told it was ibs. I have also seen the uks top ibs consultant Professor Peter Whorewell at manchester university wythenshawe hospital who also confirmed that it's absolutely a symptom of ibs. I have had 15 hours of ibs but directed hypnotherapy in Manchester on the nhs but you can also receive it by whatsapp or skype if you find it hard to travel with bowel movements or even anxiety which is also a cause and a symptom of ibs. If you can calm the anxiety you will find the ibs calms also and then if you can will your tummy to feel better by placing a hand on your tummy and suggesting to it that you can feel the warmth of your hand pressing on your tummy and say to yourself the warmth is calming and comforting your tummy and bowels. If you do this while relaxed from anxiety it really does work . If you continually do it over a period of time it will calm your ibs and pain and anxiety a whole lot

I support what the other replies have said, but would add that if you don't believe your IBS to be linked to anxiety, you could also look into TMJD / connective tissue disorder which can result in pain in all kinds of places and is also associated with IBS. I believe TMJD to have been the cause of my own IBS; the IBS is now largely cleared up but I am still working on sorting out my connective tissue which was in a right mess from my head right down to my toes and fingertips and all over the place in between. The stretching work I am doing in trying to retension it occasionally results in brief temporary mild IBS type symptoms, but most of the time I'm fine, and eating whatever I want to.

Maybe it's some human worm.... try 'Green black whalnut complex by 'Now'

I bought it on I herb. 20 drops 30 min before meal 2x a day, candida clear tablets and....Ovex from boots or Sainsbury's.

This will cost you about £30 and may be life saver.

I'm wondering if the pain is caused by Mesh they used. There have been several articles about Hernia repair using Mesh. It's a foreign substance our bodies can reject which may be what's going on. My friend had a hernia repair with Mesh and he started having the same pain. When they went back in the Mesh was all in pieces. A cheap version was used. He said he did not want Mesh to be used again and they operated a different way without the use of Mesh. Is there any way you can have a cat scan or MRI done to find out?
