I have IBS-D and I’ve noticed recently (as I have only started having flare ups again in the last 5 weeks after years in remission), that following a bowel movement during a flareup, I get a weird pain at the top of my left buttock towards my tail bone, but not quite at the tail bone if that makes sense. It’s a pulsing pain that’s there constantly, but increases when...clenching? and it is also significantly worse in the mornings when I wake up.
I get very anxious with each flareup, as there was a time a few years back when IBS completely took over my life. I had a colonoscopy back in 2016 but now I have been worrying something may have changed between now and then and that my condition may actually be something worse than IBS such as Crohns or UC, or cancer..With the pandemic at the moment I assume it would be difficult to get any blood tests done.
Can anyone give some advice? Or has anyone experienced this buttock pain? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks

Hi, i don’t have the pain you mention but could it be simply from the pressure of where that part of your body contacts the toilet seat as such ? And maybe then pinching nerve / muscle ?
I feel like I've experienced this before except my whole bum was hurting! This happened to my last year around this time when I was finishing my final year of school and the pain just radiated so much throughout my bum. No matter what I did during that time it continued to hurt when I was walking, sitting, or lying down. I even slept on ice packs and nothing worked until finally it left by itself. I had 2 flare ups during this time and maybe the stress and pressure down there made my bum hurt, but to this day I feel fine.
it could be a slight case of sciatica. I’m telling you, there is a HUGE connection with ibs, back and hip issues, and pelvic floor problems. A lot of the time, if you have one, you have another. Try some stretches and exercises for lower back, hip flexors, and the sciatic nerve.
Thanks to everyone for your replies! The pain seems to have subsided now and is only there when I lay down in certain positions. Hopefully that’s the end of it and it doesnt return!
