Hi guys, i suffer really bad bouts of diarrhea whenever i travel by planes. The problem is that with the type of career i have (Athlete) i have to travel almost every weeks. And whenever i touch down and check in the hotel, immediately i will suffer watery diarrhea that will last for several hours even days, My lips will start to flakes and i feel weak. I have to note that the diarrhea that i get are not painful. But they are very watery. Sometimes we travel by coaches but i dont seem to have any problem when i travel by coaches. And its also very important to note that we uses mainly three non related airlines, so its not about the food! I have seen two physicians and both of them has not been able to come up with an explanation. Im pretty active, we have gym session which mainly consists of cardio and my blood tests results comes back normal. But i know that regardless of the country, and the airlines, i still suffer from those bouts of watery diarrhea.

I would be inclined to think you are suffering from a stress related bout of IBS. It doesn't matter that you think you're not worried, your body thinks differently. It is possibly because, once on the aircraft, you have no control of the next (however long the flight is), but when on a coach, you can always say stop the coach, I wanna get off.

Thank you. You are right, i dont think i feel stressed about flying, But as you said, maybe i do subconsciously! One of the physician prescribed me with Imodium which really helps but has warned me not to use it excessively. Im going to take a more herbal approach to see if it helps.

Hi Juniano,

You could try talking Psyllium for a day or two (depending on your gut transit time) before you get on the plane. Make sure to drink plenty of water with that to make sure it works properly. I myself wouldn't take Psyllium continuously, long term.

Silly questions: How often do you fly. Also do you train intensively for the days before getting on the plane?

Best wishes,

Ernest

Hi Ernest,

I have never heard of Psyllium, but i will see if they have it. Does it prevent Diarrhea?

(Its not a silly question haha) I fly almost on a Bi weekly basis (every two weeks). I train mostly HIIT everyday but we are given two days off so if im flying on Saturday, i get Friday and Saturday off.

Thanks for suggesting me Psyllium.

Have a great week ♥

Psyllium is a form of soluble fibre. Works for both problems. Don't forget the water with it.

Best wishes,

Ernest
