Does constipation block bugs?

I posted a few days ago after getting a bad reaction after Mexican food on Monday. I barely ate Monday and Tues as I felt off but on both days had one miserable stool. Wednesday however my appetite came back and I felt amazing. Worked out and had lunch and an hour later pure liquid diarrhea. TMI - I couldnt "go" despite there being noticeable water coming out and eventually after downing some water I went for a third time and it was very explosive. I never ever get explosive d* unless I'm sick with a virus, last time being Christmas 2018. But I didn't feel feverish, sick or even wiped out. I'm scared as it took me effort to get it out but surely with bugs they just get out on their own? I last went at 230 on Weds afternoon and it's now Fri morning. I took an imodium after the Wednesday incident purely cos I was out and didn't wanna keep running to the bathroom and I ate two meals yesterday with zero movement. Have I backed up the virus? I'm scared to eat this morning as I have a driving lesson and scared it's gonna kick things off again

Hi there, that sounds just like what I had about 2 months ago, my Dr. Said it was likely overflow diarrhoea from being constipated.. worst was it happened almost without wanting and had two accidents.. very embarrassing!

How often does it happen to you? I'm very constipated now but I've never ever had that in my life!

You can get pseudo diarrhoea where you are blocked but liquid passes through

It doesn't sound like a bug to me but it could be. You shouldn't really take anything like Imodium if you suspect a bug. Best to let the body purge itself.

However, it could just be the spices in the meal. Any intolerances or unusual ingredients that you are not used to can have the reaction which you had. If I ate Mexican food, even a mouthful of it, I would literally have to set up camp in the bathroom for a couple of days. Stick to a bland diet for the next few days ( low Fodmaps diet if you can) and drink plenty of fluids but nothing fizzy. You didnt give your usual level of IBS discomfort. Can I assume it's not usually too bad as you would eat a thing like a Mexican meal?

Over the past few months I've managed to eat all sorts, at Christmas I went 5 weeks eating mostly everything except onion and garlic and went downhill on a date cos I was nervous haha. I then had another month being fine and that Monday I just felt off.. No appetite and it was a very miserable bm*. Tues I appeared better so ate white bread which obviously constipated me and weds I felt hungry so had my usual McDonald's and felt fine but then got the water d*. Its odd cos I literally never ever get it plus my mom said she had to go 4 times that Monday and she's got no ibs so I'm hoping it's just a one off. I'm currently so bunged up so scared what's gonna happen next

My usual state of ibs when I've eaten something bad is just an uncomfortable bm* in the morning but I'm fine for the rest of the day..

I get explosive D often, sometimes I can pin it down to what I have eaten, but not always. I rarely take Loperamide (immodium) because one capsule tends to stop everything for a couple of days, and then I get a sort of rebound bm on day three which is mostly very loose. What you are describing is exactly what happens to me and is the reason I try not to take a capsule unless it is essential and I have something important to do out of the house.

All of your symptoms that you describe sound like IBS. Many of can alternate from IBS -D to IBS -C. It all depends on what you eat. Check out the low fodmaps diet. Also check your emotional state, for me stress brings on IBS big time.. Feel better!

Check for parasites.

See an infectious disease doctor. The gut problems could be a cause from this from bad food or water. I have Graves and terrible gut issues. Had a colonoscopy and endoscopy all normal except gastritis. Lost a ton of weight. Went to a Infectious disease doc and found a common parasite. 90% of people have it and no symptoms. CDC says 1/3 of US has it and most don’t know it. Worth a check. Read it can cause a whole host of diseases and gut issues!! Infections Disease Doc will perform a sigmoidscope and I got my results in 24 hours and given meds.

Hope you feel better !
