I was prescribed Resolor 2mg 1 tablet 2 weeks ago. I had side effects for about 2/3 days. Headache, nausea and then the side effects wore off and around day 4 they stopped working.
I’ve continued to take them as they worked fantastically the first couple of days and I’m praying for a miracle.
Last night I took 4mg, so double dose and today they worked and I was able to have a bm... yay
Unsure whether they are going to work any more than a couple of days, seeing consultant tomorrow so will ask if they will officially up the dose.
Anyone take 4mg? Is it usual for them to stop working so quickly?

Hi, I had the same experience with Resolor and my consultant told me to try taking them every few days instead (like you would a laxative). This worked great, although it means your body doesn't get used to the side effects. I suffered with them a fair bit but decided it was worth it for the relief I got.
Thanks Claire I will definitely try this. The consultant suggested one daily and then 4mg when needed. I think it’s just a bit of trial and error and what best works for you. Thanks for your help xx
No problem! I used to take it a couple of times a week and found it was the only medication that helped me have a 'natural' bowel movement. It really worked wonders for me, although the side effects weren't nice. You might also need to play around with the dosage a little bit to see what works best for you - I'm very slim so only needed 0.5-1mg! But everyone is different.
Weirdly I had a few days feeling sick and now no side effects at all. I’m a size 8, they work better than anything else so far because it’s just like a normal bm but the 4mg def works better than 2mg for me.Are you still taking them or have you found something else?
Thanks again! So nice when other people get what’s happening xx
The side effects will wear off if you're taking it every day, but if you only take it intermittently they do hit you unfortunately. I took it for a good few years before my symptoms changed and it stopped working for me. That was down to other underlying issues though and I still credit Resolor with turning my life around for a good while.
Hi, yes I'm in the UK. No slow transit, just chronic constipation (has been VERY chronic at times). I have a long and complicated history but currently I don't take any laxatives, after having a stool analysis 2 years ago and being treated for a variety of things including Candida and parasites. This has helped my constipation no end, but I've had a lot of setbacks and am still undergoing treatment to improve my other symptoms (incredibly debilitating pain, gas etc).
I have slow transit and bowel prolapse, recently diagnosed so just trying to find ways to manage it successfully. I have a lot of unexplained pelvic pain too.
It’s good to hear you have some of your symptoms under control. Do you follow any special diets.
No problem So sorry to hear you're going through all that. I've tried many diets over the last 10 years or so! Fodmap and gluten free didn't work for me but many people do have success with those. I'm dairy intolerant so don't eat that and I also follow a low sugar diet following treatment for Candida (which involves zero sugar for several months). I'm in the East Midlands, where abouts are you?
Hi Claire sorry for delay in reply, hope you’re doing well I’ve been away in Scotland for a week.
I’m in Harrogate North Yorkshire. Been taking your advice and having breaks with the resolor and so far so good. Just started low FODMAP to see if that helps.
No problem, hope you had a lovely time! Zero sugar is tough, you have to be very strict or it doesn't work. That means cutting every single grain of sugar, including natural sugar like fruit and honey, and even sugar coated painkillers! It was a revelation though as I realised just how much I was eating and now manage quite happily on much, much less.
So glad the prucalopride is working out for you! 😊 How are the side effects?
Wow! Well done! Sounds hardcore! I’d be screwed as have 2 spoons in coffee :/
The side effects are varied, sometimes doesn’t bother me, sometimes I’m zonked or emotional, feel like it’s worth it at the moment and hopefully I can get a balance which fits with my work/life.
Are you managing your symptoms? Are you working at the moment?
I used to find that too, sometimes I'd be ok-ish and other times I couldn't get out of bed, but the overall improvement was definitely worth it.
I'm still going through treatment so the struggle is real lol. Haven't been able to work for 3 years now. I keep getting setbacks but I'm hopeful that I'll get there eventually. My nutritional therapist is fantastic and has helped me so much more than the NHS ever did.
Do you pay privately for a therapist? I might consider if things don’t improve over the next few months.
Sorry to hear your unable to work, it sounds like you’ve had a real struggle. I hope things continue to improve for you and thank you for taking the time to help me with your experience xx
Thank you for this message feed. On resolor too and was having side effects. I found the tips so helpful and will be trying them. I have constipation, slow transit and weak pelvic floor muscles. Experiencing acid reflux, asthma, sinus issues which I think is related to the IBS c. Struggling to get back to work too. May try a natural health practitioner. Hope you found a way to balance the side effects of resolor.
Thank you for all your tips. So helpful. Having issues with finding the right balance of taking laxative and resolor, and side effects. Experiencing similar issues to you. How did you get tested for candidia?
