Flare up experience

Hi All

I been reading through some post and see that people relate to their flare ups lasting 2-3 days or a couple of days a week.

Is there an average time scale for a flare up as mine is lasting months with 2-3 days with no symptoms. I seem to be the other way round as what am reading.

Hi Bassem I’m the same I get constant symptoms and maybe 2/3 days a month I feel normal , I was hoping if this was a flare it would’ve gone but it’s lasted 2 years so far x

God 2 years and am going in to my 3 month and depressed with that. When I have a normal day it reminds me of what I was and then when flares again I get more depressed.

This only started for me in November 2021 oh no I had a month flare up in April 2021 first ever and I was unsure what it was self diagnosed back then. Then when had another in November that’s when doctor said 99% sure it’s IBS.

I used to eat and drink what ever I wanted with only occasional constipation which I was able to relive quite easy. Since November I struggle with everything which has highlighted my anxiety, affected my social life, work life and married life.

The sad thing is we know we have to learn to find a way to live with it as there is no cure which I think also impacts on mood.

Same here used to enjoy food now I’m very apprehensive and you’re right it does affect mood , but I do take low does citilopram which helps , although I get the most awful trapped wind pain at night and have trouble sleeping , so I know where your coming from x

It’s nice chatting knowing you not alone and someone else experiences the same symptoms. I do have citilopram in my cupboard as previously been on them, been thinking about going back on them as I am really struggling at the moment.

in reply toBassem1979

I don’t think I would cope if it wasn’t for the citilopram to be fair as it does stop me worrying so much , any time you need to talk pm me , take care x

Hi Bassem, mine depends on what I am doing, or what is coming up. A bad period is around 1 - 4 months. This is basically constant diarrhoea so I just drink and try not to eat anything. So Rich Tea is my normal go-to, or if I feel like pushing it, a Ginger Biccie. Other times it can be gone within 48 hours. I cannot find any real connection between them, but I am sure for me it's emotionally based.

I've been in a flare up with my IBS/diverticulitis since the beginning of December in and out of hospital due to the pain . It has effected my anxiety to the point I don't want to leave the house due to needing the toilet urgently. It's so debilitating. Hope you find some relief sonner rather than later.

Bassem1979, check on how vitamin B 1 is involved with brain and vagus nerve function and how a deficiency may be a contributing to IBS. Anti thiamine factors decrease or destroy thiamine. This link offers a list to examine. Adequate magnesium is needed to activate thiamine. Always consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.
