UK Supply of Linaclotide / Constella

Hi,

I'm really struggling to get my Script filled in the UK due to shortages. I'm living the the north of england.

My GP doesn't know an alternative and isn't clued up on the drug at all.

I have IBS-C, fiber products make it worse. And I can eat max doses of laxative without movement. If I stop using Constella I'm backed up again. (Sorry tmi)

I follow a gluten-free, low lactose/fodmap diet. That has improved the pain associated with IBS.

I still have horrific gas which Constella helps eliminate from my body. So of anyone has any tips on that it would would be great. I am also taking a Pro/Pre biotic supplement which I started a week ago.

Can anyone in the UK recommend an alternative to Constella which is available on the NHS? And does anyone else have issues with stock levels in the UK

Hi there.

Not sure if you've seen my replies on previous posts. I'm in Scotland and still haven't got Constella. It's a UK wide problem. I emailed the manufacturer and apparently there's been a problem with EU packaging regulations. It'll be end of June before any becomes available, and that's not garuntee. 😩😟 All my GP offered me as an alternative was Fybogel. It makes me vomit it's so vile, I'm not taking it. I'd suggest Sennakot maybe, or Laxido. They worked for me occasionally.

I know the feeling as they didn't work for me. I've gone the other way and am on the toilet sometimes 6+ times a day (sorry TMI), so I don't really need it atm but it is absolutely ridiculous. Idk what to suggest, have you got a specialist IBS nurse or anything? Or a gastro you're under?

I was discharged from gastro 6mths ago because Constella was working. I've never been lucky enough to go the other way tho.

I have been following a low fodmap diet and taking prebiotics. So maybe it won't be so bad.

I've relocated so it'll mean being referred to a different hospital

I'm needing to go for a colonoscopy as I have some non typical IBS symptoms too. I'd say stick to the fodmap diet and probiotics, see how you get on. Otherwise maybe contact the manufacturer too, see if you get a different response.
