Fodmap failure: After over six weeks following... - IBS Network
Fodmap failure
I did a food diary to isolate my triggers, and it didn’t take me to long work it out. I did sort of try the FODMP, but I found my own system better and easier. Now I know my trigger foods I don’t eat them, ever.
Same here. I had already kept my own food diary and knew that lots of things which triggered pain were low fodmap. I have since had a comprehensive stool test and found I have 2 parasites and very little friendly bacteria so working on that.
Thank you, yes I found it odd that some low FODMAP foods irritated me. A h.pylori infection followed by triple eradication has caused this so the low friendly bacteria makes sense. Seeing doctor this week so will ask for stool test as well as the SIBO breath test. Also going to try acupuncture later on in the month.
I had to go private for stool test as it's not available on the NHS. Sibo is though. I am going to herbalist qualified in Chinese medicine this week and will have some acupuncture too. Hope u get on ok.
Oh didn’t realise that. Worth it though. My doctor knows less about IBS than me, always have to tell him what to do next. Seriously, once all other tests prove negative they lose interest. Not interested in how this condition affects the day to day and the despression that can affect some of us too. Good luck with the herbalist. I am seeing the acupuncturist on March 20th. x
In 40 years I’ve never found doctors much help with IBS, some sympathy and meberverine and told to watch what I eat. These days they have probably cut down on the sympathy too as they are so pushed for time. I have never been referred, just a couple of blood tests.
Wow, never referred? So you could have had something treatable all this time?? Apart from bloods have had endoscopy and colonoscopy (both negative) though remembering back I had to nag my doctor for the h.pylori test after months of pain etc. It was positive. I have since learned that it is quite a experience test which is why doctors don’t like requesting one. The triple eradication for this was a bloody nightmare. I am wearing the equivalent of a maternity dress today I am so bloated and at 61 don’t think I can get away with the pregnancy angle any more 😂 Take care x
Ive had average results with it. From what I know its designed only so you can find your triggers and not as a specific diet that you can only eat from the list. After lots of trial and error I think it did identify a couple of items that really set me off but I don't use it as a definitive list. One example is honey. Its listed as high on the fodmap and I dont have any problems. However iceberg lettuce for me is a no go? very weird. Have a look at digestive enzymes. I found they helped. PS you earn extra points for your user name.
I have been on fodmap diet for 3 yrs now didn’t see dietitian but bought two good books. One being Dr Sue Shepherds book the diet is very complicated but does work if you persevere I still have issues from time to time but I do have a very long torchous colon so need to be onto it with fibre and hydration. Accumulations and combinations of food play a big part of all this. Can be very frustrating but with limited help from the medical system we pretty much have to do our own research alot of the time.
P.S. I also take digestive enzymes. Oregano oil. Magnesium. Glucosamine. Recently took probiotics but think they make me worse but I do make and drink kefir. Lactose free milk and really limit cheese.
It took over a year on Low FOODMAP for me to have any relief, but I still take pain pills most of the time. I do feel better now.
