Does regular exercise help incomplete evacuation?

I am so fed up with this problem. I have to go to the loo at least 5 or 6 times most days - the motions are usually quite soft but I have to strain to pass them and always feels like I haven`t finished. It`s been particularly bad lately and I`m wondering if it`s because I haven`t been getting much exercise (I don`t feel very enthusiastic about going out walking when the weather is so cold!)

Different diets and supplements haven`t made any difference - I`ve tried pretty much everything! If I am really uncomfortable I use half a glycerine suppository and that helps but can sometimes trigger full blown diarrhoea so I try not to use them if I know I have to go out later

Have you tried fasting for at least 48 hours?

There are quite a few people on here who do this for incomplete evacuation including me.

During the fasting period, I only drink plain water and tea with no milk or sugar. I also take Movicol night and morning so, by the end of it, my bowels are completely empty. I find this reboots my whole system and I can go for as long as 6 weeks before I have to repeat the exercise.

I`m pleased that works for you Pagan but I wouldn`t want to do it. When I had to fast before a colonoscopy I felt really unwell and shaky with a splitting headache

I am in a very similar situation, however I am running and going to the gym most days. I think food and stress are the two most important factors. I had to quit work because just putting up with it is not the way to go. Do you notice that incomplete evacuation effects your bladder too?

Yes it does make me feel that I need to pass water quite frequently too. I am sure stress is a big cause of my IBS but I have reduced all that I can and still feel no better

Sometimes internal or external hemmorhoids make it appear that something like a small piece of stool gets stuck in there. I start to panic thinking I have an impaction, because I strain and strain..nothing, not even gas. Then I drink about 2 glasses of water (room temperature) really fast and then I will try to go again..and the small peuce eventually comes out. Sometimes it may just be a prolapsed hemmorhoid from straining..because I will walk to the convenience store, and then I come back and stuck feeling is gone. Do you suffer from internal or external hemmorhoids? If so..that might be the "incomplete evacuation" feeling. Try drinking a lot of water (not cold) and Try to go back again..usually that "stuck" piece comes out..

I don`t think haemoroids (can`t spell it!) are the problem. There is definitely some motion left behind. I go to the loo and do as much as I can and then will need to keep going back during the day. I do think that the rectum has become over sensitive so I am aware of even a small amount being stuck there. I don`t think the muscles are working properly which is why I hoped exercise might improve things

Exercise helps me. Ive had drs say just getting up and going for walks are important just to get everything in your body moving and working. besides that best advice is talk to Gastro dr, g in with a typed out list of questions/symptoms and find out what medicine or other advice might help the most

Hi, I find walking is great for my ibs, also yoga is good for blotted stomach. Not sure about fastening for 48hours, for me fastening for 12hours each day works. So no eating after 7pm until 7am next morning. Good luck.
