Hi Hancock can I ask why do you want that it is a major op and not normally for ibs. Normally for cancer / infected ulcerated bowel etc where bowel is removed.
Can we help you with any other easier ideas? What are your symptoms?
All the best

I know a guy who has a stoma,he had rectum cancer,he had a leak after his op,his stomahas been problematic,is not sticking to skiing very itchy sore shooting pains ,some go ok but as my friend it hasn't be ware, also it's usually small bowel he has over production so up and down all-day and his skin won't heal,be aware of a worst case scenario before you decied
Hi worth asking his local colostomy / stoma nurse they are experts. There is normally one for each area. My mother has had skin problems main things she was told
- try a different bag colostomy nurse can advise
- there are barrier creams he can get to help the skin get from gp or colostomy nurse
Also clean and dry area thoroughly so mucus from bowel. Does not inflame skin each time when changing bag.
- if he rings the gp surgery and asks if he can be referred to a local colostomy nurse that would
Be a good idea. If gp doesn’t know he could ring the hospital where he had it done and ask if there is a colostomy nurse assigned to that area.
It is worth it as colostomy nurses are experts. And very helpful.
I feel for your friend it’s no fun particularly if you are young. My mum is 96.
