Tips for meals for those with IBS-D

So I have had a flare up lasting around about a month now and in great deals of pain. Sadly this has meant I am not eating full meals as it is upsetting my stomach. I have lost weight as well due to it.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations food wise with someone who has a flare up? I was looking at recipes but I am a bit of a picky eater and cannot eat anything with nightshade or with dairy due to being lactose intolerant.

Thank you.

If you have an upset stomach then it can be good to try the 'BRAT' diet: Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce and Toast. e.g. plain white toast with minimal spreads can help. Rice krispies cereal is also good. If you look on Google, there is more information about the BRAT diet - it is more of a short-term diet. In the long-term, maybe doing an exclusion diet to identify 'trigger' foods or meeting a Dietitian may be helpful.

I followed the brat diet and my symptoms got worse and then discovered the FODMAP diet, apples can be a big trigger. I was drinking a lot of apple juice. Banana can also be a trigger if not ripe and you have too much. I was eating a banana everyday. I was also having plain white toast, wheat can be a trigger. I reduced to boiled white rice, grilled chicken/salmon mash potatoes carrots free from porridge oats with rice milk free from white bread with olive oil spread just a little, organic oat biscuits free from rich tea biscuits decaf tea with 2 spoons of white sugar and rice milk 2 litres of bottled water at least a day, drink while eating. I have been on this for 4 days yes it is limited so tomorrow I will be introducing 1 new food each day to find my triggers. I also take probiotics.

Hey

I have had ibs d all my life! Couldnt even poop as a child!

I got to about 18 months ago and ended up in a&e with back up and after needing to b cleaned out and spending the most 24 embarrassing hours of my life i decided i had to change something ANYTHING!!

So after years of trying to get help from a gp i decided to see a allergist and nutrionalist. Best money i ever spent.

So i started to eat clean, ie white meats and veg and fruit... never red meat ur colon cannot digest....

I stopped eating gluten( it clogs ur colon) and dairy.

It sounds hard but it not there is a alternative for everything.

I also was told to take probiotics, digestive enzymes to help break down mg food to pass quicker , peppermint oil capsules and magnesium. Most people that have c are Lacking mag or vitamin c.

So i take all these before i eat about hour before (apart from mag i take that before bed) and it helps me massively.

I now poop everyday sometimes 2 times a day.

Food wise keep it un stodgy and light and eat little meals not huge ones or again u cannot digest it quick enough.

It has totally changed my life ... i lost two stone, i hardly ever need pain meds or poop juice( laxatives) anymore.

I feel and look better i dont even get the bad wind or trapped wind

Anymore.
